Default Mark's Console Thread

I've taken out my console for the first time (to install Roger's short shifter), and I have four questions so far.

1. What should be fastened to the screw to the right of the letter "A?"
2. What is the relay socket above the letter "B" for?
3. What is the bracket beneath the letter "C" for?
4. Any WYAITs?

1 - Not sure.

2 - The relay socket marked 'B' is for the Seat Belt Relay. This presents a 6 second chime ('gong' as the owners manual claims) as a warning but only after the first 6 seconds of ignition on and seat belt not engaged. I believe it is also to warn of key-in-ignition with door-open warning. To the right of B is the central locks module (black in color), and to the left in silver is the air conditioner relay. Next to the air conditioner relay, in blue, is the Additional Control Unit Alarm System relay.

3 - I think 'C' aluminum bracket is for mounting the stereo head unit.

4 - Looks dirty. Got Vacuum?

I don't know the answers to all your questions, but here is what I know:

The bracket beneath the C is for certain type of radios that need to be attached in the back. I don't think this is used anymore on today's radios

While you are in there, you should definitely replace the vacuum diaphragms. I belive, Roger nowadays sells them separately, which saves a ton of money! The ones you need to replace are in the center vent comb flap actuator, and the foot well flap.

Sometimes when I brake a relay clatters behind the console and the seatbelt warning light in the instrument cluster flickers in time. I was hoping that was one of the two relays to the left of "B."

Yes, I will clean thoroughly while in there.

I will do that. I'm also fixing the console side brackets with some snazzy aluminum bits I found online.

a) is a left over from older cars for holding a relay of sorts.

c) is for a rear support for a radio.
