Stuck Throttle
Okay so most of the time I drive my 928 like and old lady. Probably why my flexplate never loads up. Put a PKlamp on anyway.
So today I pulled out onto the highway and literallly punched it. All was good. That is until i let off the gas at 80 it kept accelerating. At 110 I was tapping the throttle, at 130 I was punching it most markedly with my foot.
The cable dropped back by 135 and I started to slow down.
Looked at the cable and it popped out of the "holder" for better lack of word and held itself open.
Very scary and I'll have to find a way to keep it from happening again.
Anyone else ever have this happen and if so, how did you prevent it from happening again?

Happened to me on the day I was to leave for the Frenzy! On a SC's beast nonetheless.
The throttle cable from the gas pedal to the throttle quadrant has frayed and is sticking in the sheath. You need to replace it. Not hard to do except for disconnecting and re-connecting at the gas pedal. The rubber grommet that goes to the firewall stays with the cable.

Get a motorcycle cable-lubricator - use it to spray a teflon-based spray lube down the cables (can do this from the engine bay end - need to disconnect the various cables to do it).

Oh, even stock, the brakes on a Toyota will stop it .

Turning the key off was coming next but first i was tapping and jabbing to see if it would get unstuck. I have looked at the cable and it moves freely. It seemed to have "slack" in it and for lack of words popped out of its holder (the cable and not the end) I am going to lube it up and make sure it still moves freely.
I am still not used to the heavieness of the throttle compared to my newer cars like my MDX, Explorer and Jetta. They all have throttles you can basically just breathe on to make them move whereas the 928 takes some more effort to make it move. My Jetta is very light, the MDX is next in effort and the Explorer is the hardest. The 928 is in a class of its own.

Wow! Glad nothing happened to you!
Shift into nuetral for sure. Does shutting down the engine cause issues with the power assisted steering and braking?

I have seen the same thing happen to a friend's S4.
Although his car was manual, so pressing clutch was the easiest (and obvious) thing to do.
The fault was caused by the vacuum hose getting too close to the throttle linkage:

You still have the first application of the brakes - and there is a reason they put that little lever on the left side of your seat....

Well it was over in a few seconds and I was on a basically empty divided 4 lane so I had some time to run at WOT if I had to.

For those who keep getting worried about shutting things down and losing the power steering and brakes. Remember: thses are Assists!!! You will still be able to steer - unless you lock the column. You will still be able to brake - you just need to push like hell.
Go out somewhere deserted and practice a bit to see what your car feels like in this state. Especially with a 20 year old car, ther will come a time when a belt breaks or something else goes wrong and you'll experience the loss of power steering or some other issue.
