James all of the original 1982 parts that I had swapped out on your car in June, 2008 came off looking like brand new. About the only flaw was the tiniest evidence of a weep from the 26-yo water pump. I suppose it is possible that the hoses on your car are rotting from the inside but damn they sure looked good the last time I saw them 1.5 yrs ago.

I agree this '86 looks tremendous. The vendor strikes me as a complete tool but that isn't the car's fault. I can say that it would not hold a candle to Blue '82... no way, no how. Your car was banished to it's room in the late 80's and never came out. It's room was attached to a 2.0 million dollar house in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Seattle which is known for having the mildest weather known to mankind. In short... the ideal 928 preservation chamber!

Kie,

Thanks for the update (sorry I misspelled your name...how the hell did that happen?!)... BLUE82 looks the same...other than a battery tender wired up to her backside and MUCH cleaner running gear... we took the wheels off and did a very complete clean up! I LOVE THAT CAR! Thanks for letting me be her caretaker!

I can't believe it has been a year and half but it absolutely has been!

That's a gorgeous car regardless of what you may think of the seller. I have never seen it in person but it looks NEW to me or as close to new as a 24 yr old car can look. OK all you keyboard 928 experts, why isn't it worth $30k? Or is it just that you feel no 928's are worth that much? If not that amount, WIW?
How much would a black/black 86 911 with those miles be worth?

it does look like a nice car, the front seats especially, the underside not as pristine and the engine bay has some corrosion (VERY LIGHT) on fuel rails and so on) But a very nice car. I copied all his pics of the engine bay as reference for my car.... Thanks Mason!

frankly there isnt another 86 like it so if someone wants a near new 86 for used GTS money then they will pay anything for it.

its even got the original ****ty tires (****ty because they are a 25 year old design of course)

I think its worth that kind of money and to be honest, if I was in the market I would seriously consider this one. Assume that $5K of maintenance will be needed within the first 1.5 years but when you're done, you have a new 928. Not very often you can say that anymore.

Someone needs to save this car from the seller who obviously doesn't know how to care for such a gem.

This may be another car to park and leave alone really... Though it is at the edge for that... I would think under 5k miles is museum piece, over 5k miles but under 10k...gotta think keeping the miles off it will maintain its value pretty well...

If you don't mind the MASSIVE depreciation (though no worse than any new car you would buy today) then, damn right it would be a hell of a car to drive around!

Let's say seller would take around 27-28k. Drive it and spend approx. $5k til it hits 25 to 30,000 miles over 3 years. It should still have lots of life and look great if well maintained. Then WIW? Maybe in that time people will start to appreciate 928's again and you could possibly recoup close to your money back.
Better yet, keep it and drive it til it reaches 200,000 miles.

I agree that it needs some serious detailing to make it look its best but its a good buy at that price and someone will get a very nice 928 in near new condition.

I would say at 30k miles...$12k maybe $14k if it were REALLY, REALLY well kept for those 30k miles...so they would get to drive it 24k miles and lose $16k in the process...those are pretty expensive miles, but NOTHING like the Ferrari guys are paying to drive their cars! Those guys don't drive them much and then get CRUSHED when they go to sell! Most of them are lucky if they only end up spending $5/mile!

If I drive and there is a hint of salt I wait a day or two and go to the full service car wash and have them run it through three times.
