James can you provide specific details regarding which items were rotted from the inside? I've always wondered what it would take to get a very low mileage car in proper mechanical condition. I would love to have a car like Blue82 in my stable some day.

I thought the 85 Van Winkler car had oil in the water.
Turns out it was radiator hoses softening during their 10 year suspended animation, and leaching into the water.

I know this is a topic that comes up time to time. I'm a bit lazy to search the forum at the moment, but I would think that for long term storage, you'd want to drain the gasoline and coolant, but leave in the power steering, brake, and freon.

The problem is the rubber. You want it to have moisture to be preserved, but not the corrosive nature of oil, gasoline, water.

I agree, "never been serviced" is more of a warning flag unless you want a museum piece.

Geeeez regardless of how people may feel about the ownership, this car is magnificent.

IMO 928's look awesome in black and this one with almost new paint shows how good a 928 looked brand new. Look at the pics of the rear with the OB lights against the shiny black paint.

Best looking car of the 80's and still one of the best looking cars you can own. Not many 928's have that kind of gloss to them anymore and it really looks good. New wheels and H4's and that will look the best at any saturday morning gathering. (too bad it's not a euro)

It would be nice if there was a sticky thread that kept track of sub 10K mile time capsule examples like this one and the ones mentioned already.

Kia had all that work done to BLUE82 before I became her keeper... so I can't attest to how bad they really were or were not. I can tell you they changed most all the hoses and all the belts (just to be on the safe side) and that some of the hoses (guessing lower rad) didn't look great but NONE of them looked very bad considering how long they had been dormant. He also changed all the fluids and reported that they all still looked BRAND NEW as well! So in reality there may not be all that much (depending on the car and where it was stored, etc.) that would HAVE TO BE DONE, but all of it is smart to do, as in better safe than sorry.

P7's were the standard tire on the 16" wheels (I still have them on BLUE82's original wheels...dry rotted cracking and all, but look BRAND NEW), the 15" wheels fitted to the early auto cars had P6's as I recall.

Has anyone seen the car or living close by. I am tempted (at the right price) to bring it back to Europe. I had a 928s in the early '80s and have never totally got it out of my system. It rather depends on whether it has eurospec windows and lights. I have just brought a '96 993 cab back form the US and it was all correct spec except for the lack of a rear fog lamp ( I guess you guys don't have fog over there!). I was thinking of trying to find a very good low mileage GTS and bringing that back. It would probably be about the same price. They are hard to find. This car looks good but he is asking $30k. This is what he says about the storage - "This 928s Was stored in a climate controlled garage from day one. All rubber components are flexible and like new condition. During it's storage years it was regularly started and ran until a complete warm up, always fresh gas in a tank."

Yes. 928 was one of the first cars to use them as production line tires. 15" phonedial wheels used in some early cars was response to complaints that tire costs are too high.

Large 8" headlamps and rear fog lamp is likely minimum needed. Auxillary high beams and front fog lamps probably also. Turn signal behind front wheels possibly also. Better just prepare to change all outside lights except rear lights to ROW version. Windows are likely ok.

I was approached by these guys with an inquiry about what I would pay- and did I want it. It didn't matter to them - they planned to buy it anyway. I did them a favor by writing it up on the boards, and now I want it out of my hair. Make no mistake though- she's stunning. I drove it. It's sweet- and I wish the new owner the best.

Looking at the pictures on the website the trip odo is .5
But the car has been driven lately. Is the odo not working or did someone reset the trip meter?
Also whats up with the rear center console looks a little rough?
And is that corrosion on the front of the engine?
Just a few things in the pictures that my untrained eye's see. Is this really a 30k car?

The car does look great to me! I suspect you are correct...it probably IS the nicest '86 in the US! I would be shocked if there is another one as nice anyway!

Hope it sells quickly and is out of your hair...nice to go out to the garage and look at something like that though huh?!
