I think there must be a large variance in the gaskets for the crest and mirrors.
Folks have said there is nothing to putting the mirror gaskets on, took me and a helper almost 5 hours on each side just for the gaskets.
My crest gasket fit just fine, not problem at all.

This is why I flat out gave up on GTS mirror gaskets when I did mine. I chose to just silicone the hole shut under the mirror base and install them without the gaskets, looks better this way anyhow. I did this on all 3 of the 928s I've owned and never had a problem.

I put the gasket on the outside of the mirror, and just before tightening down the bolt, I pull the gasket over the base and tuck it in, work the gasket around and let the mirror hold the lip in place. Real smooth and easy. Takes 5 minutes. I've done about 5 this way.

As a design exercise, the later HVAC is the worst. Let's review; mech slider -> electrical contact -> matching/mixing circuitry -> vac solenoid/lines/actuator -> mech damper/armature. It begs the question 'what the hell were they thinking? The whole thing could be replaced simpler, cheaper, lighter, more efficient, with parts from a Geo Metro. It would also last 100 years with a few refills of freon.

You steering rack "easy wins" are irritating! It fights me every time.

Some days I think the whole car is built from 3 hour bolts. The ones that come right out, but never go back in.

Mine are difficult if the motor mounts are collapsed.

The ones on mine would not have worked like that, they were over 1/4" smaller all the way around, I honestly thought they were the wrong parts, but they were new out of the bag with the correct Porsche part number on them.

Now way you could have done that with the ones I had.
It was like they were 3/4 repops of the correct parts.

I understand the frustration, but no way I could do that, every time I looked in the mirror I would think about that part I left out, it would drive me nuts.

I know, that is kind of OCD in a way, but it really would drive me nuts.

How come last time I said something about the 928 being complicated and hard to fix, I was flamed so hard that everyone was inviting me to a cage fight? Some people even said it was no more difficult than working on a Ford truck.

I love the 928 but it is by far the most complex car that I have owned. The great Dwayne's step by step tear down instructions made the whole experience much less painful. Talk about design flaws, how do I keep the rear seat belt trim piece stay in the slot? Everytime I have kids seating in the rear, the same pieces fall off.
Even reaching for the seatbelt would strain my arm and neck. Why does the power lock button only work with the ignition on? Most of the time, when I am ready to exit the car, I found myself locked in it. I either have to turn the ignition on again to unlock or I have to strain my body to reach for the lock ****.
The 928 is great and beautiful but it has some real flaws which are undeniable. Thanks to many Rennlist 928 members, it makes these flaws tolerable.
Yes, the Emperor has no clothes.

Ford truck = worse. Plus when it's done it's still a Ford truck.

It can't be but another one or two bolts once I'm down there.

I take it back. #1 design flaw is making those f-ing non-removal valve cover standoffs with a f-ing hex head.
