I wonder why the digital dash was not set at the correct mileage when they replaced it? They allowed you to do this to the once IIRC for this very situation.

Enjoy the car,
Myles

Myles,
I am with you the odo swap is a big no no.
Any reputable Porsche dealer would know to reset the mileage to the exact milage within the first 50 miles or at the change of the circuit board.
I would want to see some real proof about the CB change.
Since when did 19k and 15k add up to 44k.
Buyer beware.
Roger

I'd do the TB/WP and fuel lines regardless. If you do the work yourself, it is very cheap and totally worthwhile. $400-500 in parts and you'll get acquainted with your new baby. You can knock it out in a weekend, probably faster if some local listers are invited to help out. Then you'll know you've got 45-60k on the car before it needs to be done again. Mileage is worrisome only because you can't be certain of the service history. The achille's heel of these engines is the TB/WP (and also flexplate tension for AT cars). Fix those issues and she will run like a raped ape.

a lot of work was done on this car but, i see no timing belt/wp work. all belts, motor mounts, tires replaced, ac repaired etc. the dealership says they have records of the odo replacemnt and its from a reputable dealer.

im going to look at the car tomorrow. if i decide not to go for it, i get the down payment back.

i had a 928 and i regret selling it. i remeber how i felt when i first saw the car.I got that rush of adrenaline. i know thats what ill feel tomorrow but im going to try to keep a straight head.

Aye Michael, id be glad to let you drive the car if I buy it!

Thanks! ;-) The TB/WP was not done so far as I know-and that would be my only concern. The motor mounts and so much more were done and done by a good shop over in Mineola, LI.

I hope it works out for all involved (since I get a ride/drive!)

You do not change out an odometer on digital dash you replace the Circuit Board in the back of the cluster. Once you insert the new CB the instructions ask to enter the correct mileage. You get to do this during the first 50 miles. A porsche dealer would not set the mileage to zero.
The add clearly states the change was made at 19k and the readout states 14K.
What am I missing here???
This makes it a $10k car with lots of questions.
If you plan on keeping it forever then I guess its OK.

Other than what Roger is pointing out, it looks like a great buy. I would have it ppi, and quiz the dealer on the odo first, tho. I also remember your last 928 - beautiful car - evergreen type color with tan interior - I came very close to buying it. You did a lot of work on that car if I recall correctly - no leaks, etc. Don't let this one go!

2) What does the PPI (pre purchase inspection) show? You did have one done, right? Are there any problems from the PPI that you need to know about?
3) Watch out for old tires and flat spotting. My 928, bought this past June was fine on the test drive, IE up to ~80 mph, but later when I took it above 90 mph, I had a vibration that only went away with a new set of tires.
4) Remember, its only money. You will have so much fun with that car, you will momentarily forget that you could have bought 2 or 3 Subaru's.. haha.
5) Red car = mucho tickets, haha. I bought a red sports car after college, I never had so many tickets in my life with any other car.
6) Depreciation: If you dont ever sell it, the 928 will never depreciate. Its a very simple fact that many overlook. So who cares about the speedo, etc.

Just buy it and come back and tell us what's wrong and we will all try to help you fix it up. Yea - Haaa

VTY,
Joe

This is a good summary of how I think about 928's. Good maintenance in the key areas is way more important than low miles on a 928 for me. They go forever if they're well maintained. I've bought 928's because I love them and plan to enjoy them over a long period of time. So if you love the car, a comprehensive PPI is favorable, and the price is in a range you find to be fair, buy it and feel good about it. Maintaining and improving the car is a big part of the fun, and that's going to cost money every year. That's OK, just part of owning one of these cars, but you need to make sure you're at peace with that before jumping in. If you are, then pull the trigger and enjoy it!

Another possibility would be this car if the red one doesn't work out, https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-familiar.html

That's a nice car. Hope you love it!

I'd get them to explain how the mileage adds up...and then never think about it again. You can tell by looking that it is a very low mileage car.

Thanks found it again.

Me bad, I looked under used cars.

I phoned and emailed Antonio to see if the deal went through. Haven't heard yet.
