Default Missing door stop washer?

My door stay is not holding well so I've bought a new stay to install (928.537.033.04).

Yes I know some people have had success just degreasing the old one but I'm having fun taking off door panel which is new job for me!

Anyway one write-up I saw recommended buying new rectangular rubber washers which sit between the stay and the door (928.537.371.02).

I've bought a pair of these (may as well do both doors now I'm getting practice). But looking inside the door at the original stop, and feeling around, I'm pretty certain there is no washer there! Have no records that the stay was removed in past (there is a new seal, but it was cut to install so I don't think the stay was removed for this).

Photo shows the stay photographed directly, and then at an angle using a mirror. Photo of new washer to show part I'm referring to.

Any comments please? Door seems to be ok without that washer there if indeed it is missing. What function does it serve?

One more question. How important is the polythene shield inside the door. I had to unstick part of it to reach inside the door, and I imagine it has to be removed completely for major work on windows. I can stick back the part I've peeled away but is it actually a waterproofing layer or just something used in the factory during build?

Thanks for any answers.

The rubber pad is for noise suppression. You can leave it out, but if you want to install the pad properly...

Don't over tighten the two bolts. Apply blue Loctite thread locker with the two bolts, then tighten the bolts by hand, and then another quarter turn tighter. That's all that's required.

Best to replace the the pin on the body side too, as they wear quite easily.

Great thanks. I like quiet and have the washers so will install them.

Thanks for tips on the bolts - was puzzling about them.

I don't have the replacement pins but easy to change when door back together so can do that later.

The plastic liner keeps water out of your door panel - important item.

Someone on here suggested a dollar-store shower curtain as a replacement, which sounds like a very good idea.

OK thanks. It's not damaged anywhere apart from where I peeled it back, so I'll reglue it when time comes. Shower curtain is a great idea - better than original!
