Default GTS Blau going Kapunkt

The CR-1 in the GTS has lost the rear speakers, crackles and pops and goes in and out when I try to adjust the fade, and sometimes whines with the revs. Time to upgrade the stereo. No idea what to go with. I like the features of the new stuff, but don't like the look. CD changer in the back is a JVC so I would like to trash it with the upgrade.

Yea, there is a lot of really cool new stuff out there but most of it looks like CRAP! Like it should be in a damn Ricer! Drives me CRAZY! I would look at some of the pop out touch screen radios if you want to do it seriously. Some have GPS, iPod control, etc... NICE! Not sure any of them look good, but I have seriously thought about going that route in one or more of my cars...

I went with a CDR-220 in my GTS with MB Quart 210s (German made) and Infinity Kappa 1200 watt amp and 10" sub. Sounds great. Maybe you've seen these pictures before.

I am trying to get a CDR220...one had a buy it now at $285 on ebay and I guess they got an offer at $250 and were smart and sold it for that! Wish I had offered a few $$ more...they didn't take my offer. I like them, but if I had the money and could find a good pop out touch screen that would be my preference.

I really like the look of the Nakamichi and I've heard they sound amazing too. Not sure on reliability, maybe others can chime in.

Blaupunkt also has a good looking deck which would look at home in the 928 dash.

Hi RKD,

You might want to consider the Nakamichi MB series of CD changer/receivers. As far as I can tell, its the only DIN 1 size unit that has a 6-CD changer built into it. I just installed the Nakamichi MB-VI in my S4 and it looks and sounds great.

Some company called Woofers Etc is selling them off at $299 (I think they list for around $400-500) on Ebay. It has hookups for external sources, but I dont use an IPod, etc. so I dont really care about that.

The unit has a very clean sound as compared to the PO's Pioneer CD/Reciever that was installed in the car when I bought it. Photo of the installed Nakamichi unit is attached.

VTY,
Joe

Another vote for the Nak. One of the few heads out there that looks right in this car in my opinion. Plenty of connectors to amplifiers etc.

Can't speak to reliability, it's only been in my car a couple of months now.

I had a NAK MB-700 in my 90 GT so I am leaning towards the Nak.

I'm really leaning towards moving the HVAC controld down and installing a double DIN full screen GPS unit.

I'm worried about the viewing angle though:

I like the Kenwood units because their GPS is all Garmin.

Rkd, mine's been doing that for years, plus the TAPE DECK doesn't work- eats tapes. The only ones left on earth, lol!. So, I just listen to the engine, and think quietly to myself about how to mount a 20mm cannon in the fender to blow the idiot poking along in front of me out of the way. Or, a 150kw laser that would cut the tires off the wheels of idiot poking along in front of me. Or, if I only I was driving an M1-A1 Abrams, I could just drive OVER the idiot poking along in front of me. Or, how I could use these new tools to fix the government. Or, possibly, take over the world. Then, eliminate idiots, so none get in the way of righteous driving as it should be done, by me.

OK, maybe a new stereo would be better......

^^

If you ever figure out how to get the turtles out of the way let me know. It would be especially nice if the mod didn't require any changes to the actual car or could be removed without evidence!

As noted earlier, I also vote Nak

Don't think I would have the patience to do this, Keith is nuts, in a good way.

I watched one of my neighbors roll halfway through a 3-way intersection this morning before coming to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection, then started up again and toddled for a good 1/4 mile at 10-15 mph, head down, fishing for something on the floor (phone? Dorito? Starbucks gift card?) I'm thinking some sort of bumper-mounted EMP device. Less messy and keeps them from hurting themselves and others.

I still need to bench test the Ebay special CR-1 I have on the bench in the garage. Hope it's functional.

I LOVE what Keith did with his console...hell, his whole car is AMAZING!

Rob, I like the EMP device for taking care of poor drivers!
