When choosing a new head unit be careful about the depth. There is very little room behind the stock head unit. A number of the "gizmo-ized" head units require an inch or more of extra depth.
Also, IMO - stay away from the current generation of Kenwoods. The UI sucks. Really sucks. They are unusable. I should know

I'm going to probably put one of these two in my car. I haven't decided...

Mind you i dont use CD's and i always carry an iphone so this works great, it charges my phone and with bluetooth it can actually sync to the HU without attaching to the car. You can keep the phone in your pocket or purse (if your frooooty) and still hear your tunes.
I also LOVE the way it looks. Its very sleek, looks very good on and off and if you could change the backlighting to orange it would be a perfect 928 match.
One thing i dont like is the touch button volume up and down. It looks fantastic, but when i get a call and need to turn the volume down its difficult. As such i drive with the remote in my hand constantly. Its much easier to adjust volume via the remote than with the HU itself.
I am very much about the way things look in the car. I cant stand the way most HU's look, they have silver this, dolphins jumping through water, flowers blooming and all sorts of garbage, this HU really looks sharp if you ask me.
Im holding out for a 7" or so iPad with 3G to come out. (maybe 6 months after the 10"?) Although I have no idea how you would get an apple dock connector to an amplifier which would then broadcast the sound through the 10 speakers in the car.
I like the touch screen, but based on what Keith had to do, I dont want to have to relocate all those things. I like the double DIN units, but the biggest problem is the depth of those things. Surely they could make one thats not as deep now? I suppose they wont though because double DIN is a 3 dimensional specification and not 2 dimensions, so depth is going to have to be 1 size only.
Although maybe you could take the guts out of a double DIN box, mount just the touch screen in the dash and then somehow remotely locate the radio itself into another area of the car? All you need on the dash is the control and display unit, I see no reason why the brains of the radio itself couldnt be mounted elsewhere? Or maybe take the double DIN mount it with the amp wherever you do that. Remove the LCD from the unit and connect up some kind of 6-10' long LCD display cable thats shielded to in a sense remotely locate the display and control interface. Could this be done with some of these Pioneer, Alpine and Kenwood units?
Hmmmm very interesting.
