Default Which Oil Filter

Wanted to check which brand of oil filter people prefer in their 928...

Genuine Porsche vs. Mann vs. Mahle vs. Other

What are the benefits of your preferred choice?

I prefer Purolator.
Can buy it at Advance Auto next day delivery for $7.
Inside comes a traditional Mann filter.

I've always used Mahle myself but a lot of my customers in Australia prefer Mann. As the Mahle just went up in price I may use Mann in future.
As far as selling oil filters I supply Mann at the moment for $6.95 including the oil drain seal.
Sell one Porsche oil filter every now and then. It's Mahle IIRC.
Purulator, Mann and Mahle are OE suppliers to Porsche.

Any difference with Bosche? They seem to be a little more expensive.

I have some Bosch premiums here, but have not tried on the 928,yet. I use them on my truck and all is well. They were less than $$$ the Mahle filters.

Sometimes oil filters can bite. Subaru had a recall on some once because the seal got so hard in Canada at cold startup (oil max thickness, pressure) that they leaked a sump full. GM down here in Oz had some seal failures that killed engines, and the filter maker found that drifting cores in the block casting process produced hot spots on the filter pad that burned the seal - had to up the temp spec of the seal material.

I just found this link to a guy who cut open a ton of different oil filters. I don't know if it has been posted before, but it was pretty interesting reading for me.

Please support our 928 vendors!! You already have a short needs list; add the filters to the list and place the call. Operators (Mark & Tom, Roger and Laura, Dave & Jeannie etc) are standing by!

I buy them by the case - not like they go off with age. After having been stung about $45 US for one filter from the Porsche stealership in Auckland (and I didn't even get it in Porsche shopping bag) I vowed never again and ordered a dozen from one of the big 3.

I only use Mann or Mahle in pretty much any European car.

Yes it is. I just read it and it seems one of the Best is RYCO from Aus. (though Mann and Mahle are not on that page) According to the RYCO website they make a filter for the 928. I wonder if any Aussie's have tried one.
