Idles but no power
Well the Slave Cylinder rod length was not the problem. The car starts, idles and revs, but when I put it in gear there's no power. The possibilities are, hitt'n on 7 cyl, vaccum line issue or ? So before I get toad into the shop @ $88/hr, any thoughts?
All good questions. Car is a 1980 5-speed. Moves in gear alittle but I have to rev the crap out of it, then it stalls. Coil, dist cap, rotor, fuel pump and filter are new. I'll check the AFM next. Yes it rolls (but it's a bear to push). Could the parking brake be frozen? Cleaned and sprayed the AFM connectors, no joy.
Toad the car to Body Motion. After winching it onto the tow dolly, Couldn't get it off! Asked Ace for help, he drove and I pushed. Next thing I see is my car zipping around the parking lot, go figure. Either what was stuck came unstuck or whatever! Then it started burbing and farting, just made it into a parking spot (next to the GT3 race cars). Looked right at home.

Is this a continuation of another thread? From what you post here I guess timing. At speed I had a similar issue that turned out to be corrosion on the coil connectors which I guess resulted in a weak spark: so, secondary ignition issues.

Hi Peter,
I'm guessing from THIS THREAD that it's a 1980 5-speed.
Starts this way:
If you were firing on less than 8 cylinders I don't imagine it would rev ok or at least it would sound bad. I'm not real familiar with the OBs, but it seems like you need to isolate whether it's an engine or a trans problem. Easy enough with a 5 speed I would think. If everything is running fine and the timing checks OK at idle, cruise and WOT then I'd guess it's not a problem with the engine but with the clutch, trans or driveline somewhere.

Does it MOVE at all in gear - or even try to move? Does it feel like the parking brake is hard on and stalling it? Can the 5 speed get two gears engaged at once internally - not familiar with its interlocks...If pushed , does it roll ok - in neutral, and in gear with clutch down?
To me the phrase 'no power' implies it runs, and drives, but has no grunt, as distinct from stalls, doesnt drive at all.
