Thank you for the welcome back! I did my undergrad work at UNC, and then I lived in Wrightsville Beach for about 5 years before returning to NY for grad school...all of my closest friends are still either in Wilmington or Charlotte, and as such I have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to return!

Again, welcome back. Hard to stay away isn't it?

I have no idea what Loren might charge to paint an entire car but you might want to check with him b/c if you're going to take it apart (I'd take the bumper covers off yourself too; easy job....) you might be surprised about how reasonable he might be. I've never had an entire car painted but Loren painted the front fenders, rockers, hood and both bumper covers on a black GTS I owned a few years ago and the price was very reasonable and the paint was perfect.....

Good luck.

Indeed, it is!

I can also remove the bumpers and sunroof, and anything else that needs removing, etc...I will without a doubt get in touch with Loren and ask to see some of his work and we will go from there...I want to get in touch with at least 3 painters and see what they can offer.

I'm willing to pay a little extra for nice paint work, however I also know that a great paint job can be had for well under $8000, especially if I'm going to do all of the disassembly and reassembly...the only reassembly I would want the painter to do would be installing the new bumper cover beading and the covers themselves...

Are any of you guys familiar with a development called Providence Downs over in Waxhaw, Union County? I think that we may have found our dream home there...only seems to be about 20-30mins from the center of Charlotte...

Mark, you've been away for a while... so if you are going to uptown during rush hour, you can multiply those times by two or three.

My commute takes me around 40-45 minutes for an 18 minute trip (according to MapQuest) from Union County.

But, there are several nice developments around Waxhaw & Weddington...

Thanks for that info, Barry, that's great to know...my office is up by UNCC so if we choose to buy this house I guess I'm looking at an hour commute one-way

We are in love with this house...heading back down on Wednesday thru President's day to look at some additional properties and finalize our decision...

Not necessarily... I-485 is completed all the way to the main exits for the University area, and is a far faster route than I-74 (Independence Blvd) or any of the side roads. The first week or so should tell you what the travel time should be -barring accidents or speed traps.

Perhaps if there's any free time during your house hunt -some of us 928'ers can meet you and the 'missus'... but, we'll have to call that as time provides I suppose.

Not actually moving back until May?!? That doesn't give much time to prep the shark for SITM... although all are welcomed and encouraged to attend. 928 owners are not known to be snobby...

We are actually going to moving back down the last week of March, and I do not start work until 4/12 so I'll have some time to become acclimated to which ever area we choose...I woul love to meet up with you and the others next week if time provides...I will definitely be in touch...my other half wants nothing to do with cars, hell she won't even ride in the 928 so I'm sure it will just be me...

The car, unfortunately, will not be ready for SITM...I have a lot of prep to do, both body and engine wise, before I take it in for paint. I don't see the car being finished until the end of summer; I'm kind of a perfectionist...I will be at the show, however

My 928 has attended a couple of times in less than perfect cosmetic shape. I went to add to the 928 count and gawk at the clean enough to eat off of cars..

Providence Downs is very nice, but obviously you already knew that.

The paint is actually not that bad, but it does need a respray...I also have some running issues that I need to get sorted out. I need to to do the TB/WP, finish the ignition system, an intake R&R, lots of powdercoating, cam cover seals, injectors, gas gauge doesn't work, I have an exhaust leak that I hope is aft of the manifold, x-pipe and other exhaust mods, A/C needs a drain & recharge...but I'm mainly concerned about driveability issues going up to the mountains...

+1 on Providence Downs. My neighbor is a contractor and he built a very nice house there. As Barry said, if you take 485, you commute may not be too bad. Look forward to meeting you.

That area is very nice, house wise, but not many bagains. Charlotte was always on the list for eeking out small gains while the rest of the country was losing big time. I saw most all those dev.s in Ballantyne and Union County last year.

If you want the best weather in the region go down the road a bit to Greenville SC.

Although a little bit of a drive from Charlotte and not exactly 928 related, it would be great having a couple more 928 drivers at the upcoming Triangle/Triad Joint Tech Session:

http://trianglearea.wordpress.com/20...session-21310/

What: Bilstein PSS9 Install on a 996 Cab
Where: 3G Motorsports; Greensboro; Website Link; Google Maps Link
When: Saturday Feb 13
Who: Triangle & Triad Area Members
Start Time: 9am

I should point out that this is sponsored by the Triangle Area-- Carolinas Region PCA.

Come see up close and personal the installation of a coil over suspension on a Porsche 911 Cab.

After a walk through of the shop and facility Greg Jones, owner of 3G Motorsports will install a PSS9 Coil Over suspension on one of our member’s 996 Cab. He will explain in detail everything that needs to happen to make this a successful install and explain the technical aspects of the suspension install and tuning.

Lunch will be provided by the Triangle Area.

Please RSVP at triangle-ad@carolinas-pca.com so they can gauge how much food they’ll need.
