I have a good story of a snobby Porsche owner which comes from my wife. ( BTW- Most all the PCA guys I met were cool- I was a member since '03) Anyway...
I put a PCA sticker on the rear/driver side window of my wifes S-Type Jag. She was at the CVS pharmacy drive through window one morning when the pharmasist noticed it and excitedly told her that he too was a member, and asked her what model we had. She said" My husband has a 928-S4 5 speed"
She said his expression changed to one of mild disgust, then she asked him what he had. He pointed across the parking lot to his car, and proudly said "a Boxster". To which my wife replied...
"Awwww- those are so little & cute- my girlfriend drives one" and smiled, as he turned red. HAHAHA

typical PCA guys...however once they see a nice 928 run, or judge it in a concours...then they respect it a bit more.....of course watching the old 928 run away from their brand new fancy 911 on the racetrack tends to make them upset too :>)
I have had more 911 types compliment my '85 and tell me how they love
the sound of the exhaust than I can count. I guess it veries from region to region.
In fact my car won peoples choice in last years zone 7 concours.
My first PCA experience was also negative. I was actually told I was not eligible for membership as the 928 was not considered a "real" Porsche.
Then I moved to Raleigh, NC; home of the second highest concentration of 928s per capita in the country. The long time president of the Hurricane region is a 928 owner (former Parade concourse winner). Our Saturday coffee klatches will gather at least half a dozen 928s along with various 944 and 968s. Of course there is always the friendly banter about water cooled, air cooled etc but no blatant snobbery. Feel free to stop by any time.

Makes me wonder since there have been 12 years of water-cooling 911's and since Porsche has had excellent sales success in that time if that has changed the perception...

Not true, James. I've been to three HCRPCA events and met some real ********* and poseurs. "I've got more money than God", "I'm the coolest cat here", "You drive a WHAT!?!" types.
Quite a few nice people, too, but a noticeable amount of ********. And the first time I volunteered they looked at me like I had leprosy or something.
+1 on DBrown's comments. Raleigh is a great area in which to own a 928 ( and Porsches in general).
DBrown, where did you find the data on "second highest concentration of 928s per capita"? Where is #1? I'd love to see the rest of the list too, in case I ever have to move...
FWIW I let my membership lapse after a bad experience at two different autocrosses. This after doing absolutely everything with the club, being on the board and getting the worker of the year award one year. There are lots of good people in the club but at least in my region there was a combination of poor organization and an old guard that obviously didn't want me around. I should say that does not include the track guys, very good bunch there. I suppose I'll give it another shot at some point, but I have more fun these days with the 928 gang and the LeMons races.

I have yet to go to a PCA meet. Just joined a few months ago as a few of my friends are members. I remember too many NCRS Corvette members I had the misfortune of running into years ago when I had a string of Vettes. A$$holes one & all. Only concern was their car was better than mine, etc. I think this is the trend with single marque car clubs and my reluctance to join any. I have several different makes, some way faster than the majority of Porsches but not as refined in other areas. My lowly old Trans Am will kick the butt of my 928... but who cares? Do your best to ignore the crass, boorish comments of those who are obviously in possession of very small penises, but still manage to be the biggest of ******.
