Silicone Radiator Hose Interest
Hi Guys. We are about done bringing silicone radiator hoses to the 951 and 944 8v groups, and thought maybe you V8 guys could be interested as well. We are doing sets in black, red and blue.
This process seems to take about 4-6 weeks from initiation, to product.
Any thoughts or comments?

Mike,
I saw your post on the 944 forum and started this thread here...

Looks like there's good interest in knowing more.

As posted in the above link, Roger is already working on a kit
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ant-hoses.html
I disagree about the other hoses since the remains of a 928 engine after the rear hose burst is behind my firends shop.
IMO most do not replace the rear hoses as often because they are a royal PIA.
Personally I would prefer to upgrade every hose that is involved with the coolant system to silicone.
Mike, unless I missed it, you never answered my question about the 944 kit fitting the 16V cars.

Mike--
Give us an idea how many you need for a run and how many $ you need to make it worthwhile. Even yardstick numbers will help gauge real interest.

I do not see a big market for the complete hose set. However the response in the other thread was positive.
I also do not want to re-invent the wheel. Shipping costs from the other side of the World are high.
Talked with Dave at LR and we will see what happens.

Roger-- Scott here (I sold you a broken analog clock once and bought some foglight lenses from you...)
Could you please inform all of us when you've figured out what you are going to be offering?
Thanks!

We have questions for the 87-95 guys on hoses since that would be the first year group we would attempt.
Hose 14, 15, 31, 33 and 40 look pretty straight forward.
Q1) Hose 41 ad 39 appear to be the same size hose because the clamps are the same ones. Is there any good reason for the nipple #42 to be in there? Could that nipple be moved to shortly after the 90 degree bend just off the radiator? We are thinking make the 90 bend, and connect to a silicone heater hose via a nipple near the bend and it would probably cut down on cost since heater hose is already produced. At least in blue.
Q2) On the Y pipe # 52 the left rear leg goes to the heater core and control valve. There are a total of 3 hoses back there. Are they visible, and would those be wanted in silicone as well? If worth changing, but not visible, we could do black only on those.
Q3) # 47. Is that puke hose as small as it looks? Is it visible and worth changing?

Q1) In my opinion there is no point in making hose 41. It can be replaced with normal straight hose when #5 is changed to banjo bolt. Suitable bolt is little hard to find but if I remember right someone sells them, at least for aftermarket alu radiator. Maybe Roger? With alu radiator it will rub to hood if stock style hose is used.
#39 is normal straight hose I think, also #40 is straight?
Q2) They are fairly difficult to see when air filter box is in. Black only would be enough for most customers I think.
Q3) Not worth in my opinion. Its small and possibly just straight stuff anyway.
#14, #15 and #31 are most important. Then those few non straight ones at the back at firewall.

There's also the heater hoses, 1,2,and 4 in this part of the PET...
I don't think there is much difference between 16v and 32v. I'm pretty sure the very small 47 puke hose is already silicone rubber. There is a aftermarket version of 15 that is reduced diameter which reduces the potential interference with the power steering belt.
On 39, and 40 using straight hose. I'm pretty sure 40 is a molded hose. Most people are unaware that the 928's cooling systems design requires continuous sloped hoses to prevent water traps which hampers refilling with coolant when the coolant is drained. Some complain of burping problems, which does not exist with the factory hoses and routing. The length and routing is critical for these two hoses.

Q1 - IIRC on the 16V cars there is a T instead of the connector, a 3rd hose goes off to the water bridge? (correct me here guys...)
I also agree with Erkka on this one. It’s a low pressure hose than can be swapped out with bulk hose. Maybe source out the size and simply offer a set length? I doubt anything “special” needs to be produced for this one. For those going for the color change, they might want this available in the new color.
Q2 - I'm assuming these are the hoses Roger is talking about possibly not producing. They are almost unnoticeable and a PIA to change. Personally I would want these available, for track cars most have this deleted (like the 944 kits)
Q3 – Agree with Erkka
I’m going from a very fuzzy memory, there are two (or three) versions of #15. One of them sits closer to the radiator and is the preferred hose for supercharged cars for pulley clearance. Might be a good idea to make that one since universally will work for the most customers (AFIK the hose I’m speaking of can be used on any stock 928).

In terms of what actually fails, isn't the heater valve hose (#4 in Borland's post) pretty high on the list? Not to mention that it's something insane, like $15 or $20 for 3" of hose?
Maybe one could consider the hoses that are a major PITA to change, and so you'd WANT to have them in a kit while you've drained coolant - my list would definitely include the heater hoses and heater valve hose, and the bottom of reservoir-to- Y-pipe hose.
