One week old new computer should have that resolution plus more, not sure if you are running windows 7 or vista but go to the control panel then personalization adjust resolution click apply and it should reset.

If your laptop cannot go to 1280 x 1024 you can't fix, however, if you attach an external monitor that can go to that resolution, set that monitor as your primary monitor when the pc powers up so that you startup screen is on the external monitor you should be able to load PET - HOWEVER - it still won't run on your laptop, and you will be forced to use the external monitor as your main monitor anytime you want to view PET- or to put it another way - your s****d :-(

Malcolm...I had similar issues with my 3 week old HP desktop...I adjusted my resolution and clicked on the "Petsetup" icon and all is well. It wouldn't work unless the res. was at 1280 x 1024. This probably doesn't help you, given you're using a laptop, but perhaps others may have the answer.

There's a PDF version flying around that doesn't have the screen limitations. IIRC, the download was from Porsche directly. I have it someplace but too big to e-mail easily. Someone will chime in with the link I'm sure.

I am also having resolution problems with Windows 7. When I try to install PET 6.03, I get a message that says the the installer needs a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024, and then it dies. Problem is, my screen resolution IS 1290 x 1024!

Wally, It won't install on anything other than a native 1280 x 1024 display - the installer is set to look for exactly 1280 x 1024, and if it sees anything else it throws up. Try starting in safe mode on your pc, set the screen res to 1280 x 1024 and see if this works . Once it is installed it will run on other ( higher only) resolutions, you just need to fake out the installer!
You can also try to set your windows 7 into windows XP compatabilty mode, PET 6x predates windows 7, of course, and win7 is way more restrictive on what it loads and runs.

Malcom, I am also having the same problem with my new Christmas present. I am set up in the garage using a flat screen as a monitor but also can't upload PET. I have "IT people" to help but "she" is not happy with me right now. Also it is Windows 7.
This set up should be great for one of Dwaynes write ups but no PET.
And yes James that is your 2010 calender by the TV.

I've managed to install Pet5 and 6 and then run them on both my 5.5 year old HP laptop (max display res 1024x768) and on my $280US Eeepc (max display res 1024x600)- both running XP though - by setting the screen resolution for the video "card" to 1280x1024. Neither is ideal as the PET display goes off the edges of the screen , accesible just by moving the mouse cursor off "sceren" whereupon the whole screen scrolls.
Having no experience of vista or windows7 I have no idea if this is possible but I would guess that if there is a separate utility for the graphics "card" this will give you the option for a whole lot of screen resolutions that win 7 won't let you have.

Seems like there's a few of us with PET 6 and Windows 7 issues.
Although there's different resolutions available 1280/1024 isn't one of them that I can see
