I'm hoping someone out there has Jims email address. I have several questions re. his excellent CDs and my new laptop (cant get PET to work).

My computer skills probably need an upgrade for the new computer

John............the computer sees PET on the CD but I cant seem to download it. If I double click on PET it opens up many sub folders and I dont recall which require opening/saving to the computer for it to work.

My new laptop is a Toshiba L450 running windows 7.

thanks for any help you can bring to bear..............Malcolm

Unless its buried within a file and then another I don't readily see the install file.

IIRC correctly the version I had on my old Dell computer was given to me on a disc before I got Jims CDs.

Regardless, PET 6 on Jims first CD wont load on this machine running windows 7 although it could well be operator error

Malcom,

I installed my copy of PET6 on a Win-7 machine with no problems. The one I have (don't recall the source) is a 129MB "zip" file, I opened that and copied everything to another folder ("pet6") to extract the individual files (sounds like maybe that is already done?).

That "pet6" folder then contained two program files and about 18 folders. One of the program files is "Petsetup", I double-clicked that to run it. It asked the usual questions and churned for a while, popped up some error message about an OLE thingie and then it was done. And worked! Except that the USA/Canada/ROW labels on the first menu page are missing. (ROW on top, USA/Canada on bottom).

I hope this helps. If not, send me a PM with a phone# and we can chat in the AM.

Cheers,

IIRC the install checks the resolution and if it can't find the required minimum it won't install anything !
