AFAIK '91 MY was first year when M595 painted spoiler was available. Some older style spoilers had texture sanded off and they were painted even before '91 MY by owners.

Good call Erkka. I knew some of the S4's had a smooth spoiler, but didn't know when that happened. Not sure what is up w/ that '89...

Who painted it, mechanic? Matte black painted spoiler was also available as option in GTS with option code M596. Its not same as black spoiler used in '87-91 models. This later style has smooth surface and is basically matte black painted version of '91 S4/GT optional M595 painted to body color spoiler which was stock in GTS. Earlier S4/CS/SE/GT style is rubbery non smooth version.
Errika,

They have a painting facility in their garage. I take their word for it. Since I ask why it's only mine with black spoiler the other GTS have matching colors. They've painted lots of body parts( Doors, bonnet etc) before they go on sale on depo site. Now you explain it- It make sense- mine is a smooth, glossy surface. So I guess it's original.

Z,

I would suggest saving all of the parts that you take off if possible.
Wally,

yes- i'm planning to take everything like the Timing belt ,etc. & I must be there to see them changing the belt- i know some workshops over here- takes your new parts and did not change at all. They later sell your new parts.

Aryan,

Now i get it- Now I recall seeing the S4 have those spoiler! Non smooth type.

My windows now work- After the mechanic replace the small wheel at the regulator.- Feb

Hi Z
Is that the RNF workshop in Bunut? Did they get that amethyst GTS out in the end - what a sad condition the engine harness etc, I tried the computers in my S4 and the LH didn't work but I'm sure they weren't convinced! Your car is a beauty, you're very lucky! I bought my S4 in terrible condition and have slowly bought it back to life.

Hello Joe,

Yes it's at RNF & it's staying overnight there. At least my 928 is not alone there- A Ferrari F355 GTS, & BMW 850i also stays overnight at RNF .

They have the hard time taking out the pulley long screw- So They adding some lubricant & try again tomorrow.
Picture shown:

The decade old Timing belt & still looks new. Yes- When the mechanics open up everything- Everything in it is still so new.- Factory fresh.. How I wish the 928 came with Timing chain so we do not need to rip off everything..

Regarding the purple 928- It' s not there anymore & according to them they bring it to QAF Porsche dealership to solve the ECU problem.

That front pulley, and all the pieces back through the vibration damper, come off with hand wiggling and pulling. There's no good way to get a puller onto those pulleys to help them, and don't bend them with a hammer.

The dampener itself can be a major chore to get off. I've used a large puller with GENTLE tension on it, and tapped around the inner part of the damper to get it to come loose. GENTLE tension means no tools to tighten, just what the mechanic can do with bare hands. Too much and the rubber connective ring will crack, and you'll be shopping for a replacement dampener.

IMPORTANT!!!! Remind the mechanic that he needs to be able to read the numbers on the dampener when it's reinstalled; the correct direction is backwards from the way you would think just looking at the hub. Timing the cams with the dampener on backwards risks serious damage.
