Hey Rob.

if we leave Thursday about 4 am we could meet the detroit crew around 1-3 pm outside Cinncinati. from there its about 3 hrs to alcona. would be a blast to have a school of sharks riding together. od we could go the other way and go to detroit for morning and drive the whole way with them.......

get back to me on this.....
I booked thursdday, Friday and the monday off work. Gonne stop in PA on the way back and do some shopping with the wife.

Could we meet at a lunch spot maybe south of Cinncinati early afternoon. It would be a 9 hr drive from Grimsby to Cinncinati, so if I left early-early I could get there between 1-4. also travelling with me will be my wife. And maybe a few other 928's.
It's best to just plan on meeting up at the destination. We've tried hooking up along the way, and invariably people get delayed for a number of reasons. Alcoa is a good goal. It's roughly 8 hours from Detroit, so you should be able to make it in about 13. I know... that's a long day but you can do it. Then it's a casual wake up and drive to Banner Elk. I think last year it took us about 8 hours with rain, and a few stops. Arrived in Banner Elk around 4pm. Sure there are faster routes, but man, what a drive!

Now, this is not directed at you Steve, but thought I would throw it out there.

I think i've said this before, but I want to make my philosophy very clear. The trip to SITM is as much my trip as it is yours. I may want to travel faster than you or slower than you. I do not expect you to keep up with me, and I don't expect to keep up with you. What I'm trying to say is we all travel at our own pace.

You may find another 928er (hopefully someone new) that drives like you and you can drive together. But if not, you should not expect others to slow down or speed up for the sake of keeping you company or giving you directions (mechanical brakedown is a bit different, but not a whole lot.)

I have found the best number of cars to travel with is one or two. Any more than that, and it seems to be a pain for several reasons. It's hard to communicate, pull over, gas up, get lunch, etc. etc. etc.

Last year was a bit different. We had rain that slowed us down and kept everyone grouped together. I was amazed. I think we had 11 928s runnning together. It was fun, but when it came to getting gas, or pulling over, it was a pain.

The point of all this is to be prepared. I now your new at this SITM thing, but being prepared will help you enjoy the trip that much more. Make sure you know where you're going. If you're using a GPS, pre-program your waypoints and destinations. Also, have a good map as a backup. If you haven't already, take time to study this post from 2 years ago - My favorite drive of all time.

I plan to take the same route this year (http://tinyurl.com/4o63gj ). The only thing different is the starting address (different hotel).

Ok, enough blabbering.

One last comment, make sure you flush your brake system and have fresh fluid. You'll be using the brakes a lot!

There are some fantastic roads that are just too fun to NOT drive. Best place to pop your cherry!
OK, So it's Alcoa for the Thursday night.
Now I understand.

See you there. No problem with the philosophy......
Too many experiences with large goups on snowmobiles.....
I think we should have a major exchange of cell numbers though prior to departure as a just-in-case.

To hopefully avoid netbots... same reason for spelling "AT" instead of @ when giving your email.

Because everything posted on this forum short of PM's is indexed through Google and therefore searchable by others and bots. They look for common numeric structures for phone numbers and and other strings for personal email accounts. Jmrjames just had this issue when he posted his personal cell number and someone found it through a google search.
