S4 intake manifold spacer sleeve orientation?
I'm trying to reinstall the intake manifold on my S4, but I'm confused as to the orientation of the sleeves that go around the ten intake manifold studs. If my memory serves me correctly, the flanged side goes down. WSM no help on this one. I don't know why they are flanged, but if someone thought enough to add a flange, it has a purpose. As always, all help appreciated

The sleeve just serves to limit the compression on the flange gasket. On assembly, just tighten the locknut till the nut/washer bottom on the sleeve. There's no reason to torque these any tighter.

Still not sure of the orientation. Does the flange go up or down? I checked my GTS and the sleeves were oriented "flange down". I'm the second owner and as far as I know it's never been apart.

Yes, the "fat" part goes down. This holds the intake gasket centered.
