Fun with Foglights
Something that really bugs me is the milky, opaque appearance of my tired old foglight lenses. So I called up a glass refinisher and asked him to see what we could do with them.
Today he brought by the driver's side and it came out fantastic! There are still some deep pits that can't be taken out, but the improvement is night and day. The old lens in the photo is roughly what this one looked like before Aaron worked on it.
Can't remember whether new lenses are still available or what they cost, but I'm going to enjoy looking at the front of my shark a bunch more after getting both of them done! (I think I'll try some of that headlight protective film material on these too to try to keep them looking good)

and for a finishing touch get some 3M paint protectant film and cover the lense, it wont pit anymore, but it will stay looking new.
Nice restore on the glass BTW

The lenses are available from Porsche (Roger) but not cheap. I replaced one of mine after our Paris Texas tour after the car in front of me deceided to drop a wheel off the pavement. One lens sacrificed to the stone gods! I knew the new lens would make the old lens look really bad so I replaced them both $$$.
But now I have a spare that I can get to look like new again! Thanks Tom.

Tom - did you happen to notice what methods were used to create these results? Was it simple machine polishing, or did he also apply a sealer?
Just wondering if it's something any of us could do ourselves. Thanks!

I haven't tried it personally but my detail guy says Bon Ami pots and pans cleaner does a great job polishing glass.

Believe it or not, I saw a sign recently in the Walmart auto service area saying that they polish headlights. Who knows what the results would be though.
