Question about throttle housing linkage
I was wondering if the difference in the throttle housing linkage (shown here from an 87 S4 auto)
and this one (from a 94 GTS 5M):
was a design evolution or if it was transmission specific. All help appreciated.

I believe the change was made in the '88 MY. Virginia (early '87) has the same linkage as your '87 pic. However, Idaho ('88) has the same linkage as your second pic. Both are automatic. I believe I have pics of both in the intake refresh post. Unfortunately, I do not know why the difference. I just looked up the Service Info for 1988 (Page 2-02 of the manual) and this is the only explanation offered for the change in throttle linkage spring design:
"Throttle Valve Housing
A modified throttle valve housing with a different return spring arrangement is introduced on 1988 model cars."

Thanks everyone. Seems as if it's a product of design evolution, not auto vs manual. Except for the linkage change, the throttle housings seem identical.
