Lots of people have been asking about the rebuild. It was done by European Performance in Natick MA at 123,000 miles. A high res copy of the invoice is available

Some parts it included
Crank
Rings
Head rebuilds and some valves
cam chains and tentioners
water pump
Total bill was just over $10,000.00
Parts total was 3700
labor was the rest.

At the same time He had a whole other plethera of things done. The invoice said, Fix anything broken... The other "broken" stuff came to another few grand

Sweet looking car. I had some work on my 924S done at European Performance...in all their white lab coat glory. They spoke derisively of 928s when I asked their opinion (I was on the hunt at that point) but they did have some onsite, apparently for service.

LISTEN! I had a 99 911, do not purchase without an extened waranty. 55k and the thrust bearing failed and it was "new motor time" $13K. I DID have the waranty. I will have another 911 someday, but it will be a 06 or later.

On the other hand. I would never sell my 928.....
Best of luck.....Rick

Things happen.... Thurst brearing failure in the car doesnt seem that common. I think you are a little paranoid considering it wasnt even a common fault of that engine. I am looking in to warranties. But I think I am going to spend the money on the upgrades that help prevent the common problems. After much research I learned the IMS failure happens to 10% of the cars and I feel these issues can be addressed with proper precautions. Much like our beloved 928's

If possible try to keep the 928 and add the 911; the best of both worlds!

My old wheels look great on your car! Best of luck with the sale, I understand wanting to try something different. But I would still advise against the 996. For the $20k or so you'll spend, you can get a really nice Carrera that is a MUCH better car.

I'm sad to lose you as a member of the 928 community, and wish you both fun and luck with the 996.

Hopefully, your 928 will find a good home. I remember some nice rides I got in it in Napa Valley when it was here, and always thought it was special - partially because of its rare and beautiful color.

The car is fantastic. if it wouldnt cause WWIII at home I would certainly keep it. In fact I felt sad last night as I pulled the 996 in the garage. I felt like it almost new and was heart broke. That car has casued me 0 headach in the 3 years I have had it. I went over and talked to it for a few seconds.Kinda like Nick Cage to Ellenore..... Yeah I'm a freak sometimes. That car has kept me sane through hard personal times. I spent a lot of time under her making her right again.
