I'm taking up the same project this summer. I'm also going to do the chain tensioner pads, but am trying to find out if I need to remove the chain to remove the tensioner.

Bernhard,
Yes, your picture is of 928 105 262 00. Your oil pressure sounds normal. I do wonder if the original plugs deform with higher oil pressure. What kind and viscosity oil are you using and how many miles on the engine?

Andy,
Yes, you remove the chewing gum plugs and replace them with the pins. The function is the same, stop oil flow to the missing camshaft bearings that they cut off at the start of 1987.

What about the rear circular covers. PET states only 1 o-ring is necessary per head. Can I use 2 per head if those pins are there? I feel like no matter what, oil would be seeping out if those pins aren't there.

I didn't have to on the 85 32V. Mark the chain withe the cam sprocket really well so it doesn't become a problen during reassembly.

You do not need to remove the chain to take the tensioner out. You need to unbolt the oil supply pipe and pray that you will not drop the ALUMINUM washers down into the head. Magnets will not save you here.
