Default racing a 928?

Is there anyone with a dedicated race car who is willing to share how they set up the suspension.i.e. ride heights, camber and toe settings etc.spring rates and type of shocks used.
Any help will be apreciated.Thanks.

I would if I KNEW what the settings were... I am sure others here will know and tell you... Every car is going to be a bit different based on weight, balance and tire/wheel size...

Which model year do you have, set up for what type of racing, in what stage of preparation?

most important is who are you going to race with? and what is the budget...Then as mentioned what has been done to the car, the engine, how much does it weigh ? The first thing is take off weight. The type of tires has MUCH to do with set up ,very much.

You may want to take a look at this thread.

It appears that a lot has to do with the tire dimensions/compounds that you are running.

The 928's don't seem to need as much camber as other cars, Mark Kibort talks of running -1.5 in front and -2.0 in back, zero toe out front, nominal toe out back, 108mm ride height.

Since I run just dirt the setup is of no use to you but I will follow this thread since IF I am stuck with a spare 84 928 I will need to do something with it.
Dirt oval I can help you.

IIRC the car is a New Zealand car 83 ROW 300HP.
Races against 944's, 911's and GT3's. Maybe the only racing 928 in NZ.
Struan will add further details I am sure.

Heavily depending on your experience...

Low end of stock ride height, Camber F -1.5 R -1, toes zero.

Novice - run stock, wait to spend money on suspension until you get experience with how you want the car to handle.

Intermediate - 600/400 springs, Bilstens, Bigger sway bars or Ott Steroid Drop Links. Above Alignement. Changes in tire width stagger may require a little tweaking of the camber and sway bars to keep the car balanced.

Advanced - Sky is the limit depending on your budget and driving style.

Cool......all the way from New Zealand..... I'll give you any info I can.....but it is highly dependent on the setup you are running.... Heres some info that will help us help you:

Cars weight with driver:
weight distribution %:
Size or wheels-tires:
type of tires..DOT or real slicks:
type of shocks & weight of springs:
type of sway bars:
Type of brakes (calipers, pads,etc)
current alignment settings:

But the most important is your impression of what the car is doing now that you like and don't like....

As a general starter....in my 84 automatic lemons racer I found using old bilstein shocks (came on car) with cut eibach springs (1.5 coils front 1.0 rear) with the toe set slightly in and caster-camber maxed out (camber around 2.4' all around) works really well on the 225/50-16 street tires we are forced to use on stock rims....I am quite impressed at the cars handling....yes the little tires hurt braking...but its pretty good overall...only a little pushy...but we are running stock sway bars still...

Now in my widow, with 295/30-18 front and 335/30-18 rear I ran MUCH less camber due to the wider tires....

Thanks Lizzard!!

Ok, what we have found to work best, is:

slam it 110mm 135mm front-rear ride hight

800lbs/ 500lbs f/r springs

alignment 0toe rear 1/16" toe in up front , 1.5 degree camber

set it up like above and it will be fast, handle well, and not wear tires that bad on the street either!

Thanks for your comments to date. Question made perfect sense to me when I wrote it,but yes, sorry I left out heaps of information that you would need to make any suggestions. So here hopefully is all the good stuff.
As Roger said 83 row 928, stock 4.7l,(does have headers and a 3" single exhaust), manual, used purely to race on tarmac circuits. Is not road legal here in it's current form,so only sees the public hi-way in the dead of night for testing purposes only!!
Wheels 17 inch, 8" on front, 10's on rear. We run a control tyre, Bridgestone RE55s,I have 235/40 F, and 255/40 R. Suspension has adjustable platforms all round, Bilstein dampers, I do not know what the spring rates are. Camber front is 1.5, zero toe,and .5 and zero toe rear. Weight is 1260kilos dry, however ihave to run an additional 35kilo of ballast as a handicap. We run a power to weight ratio equalisation system here. So my actual race weight with driver is 1410 kilos. I'm not sure what that is in American money,(ie lbs).
I am not quite sure what the brakes are, but very big vented rotors, with 4 pots on front, and slightly smaller on rear, I believe they are from late model S4. Sure pull it up well.
It handles really well, is quite neutral til pushed hard and then tends to over steer, which is very controlable, and induced o/s with throttle is huge fun.
My question really stems from 2 points I guess. Firstly to see if we can improve lap times by changing our settings, and secondly I notice we are scrubbing off the outer edge of the tyres fronts especially and was wodering if some added camber might help even the tyre wear without impedeing performance.
Pictures, yes if I knew how this was done only to happy. However I see I have to be a member to do this. I have been lurking and learning here for the past couple of years so guess it is time I became a fully fledged member. As soon as I figure out this paypal thing I will take care of it.
You may guess I'm not computer literate,I don't know how to post a link to you tube either,so I will e-mail it to Roger and if he thinks it is worthy he may be able to do it. For any one interested, some in car footage at our first race meeting in October (our summer) where I managed to out gun a few guys from 2 rows back on the grid, and he had to follow me around for a few laps.
PS car also has LSD in back!
