Also, to prevent problems further down the line....

for the vacuum system connected to the fuel pressure regulator and dampeners: replace every rubber elbow, the vacuum lines, and the 5-way splitter. The fuel turns the rubber to jelly in short order.

I'm bumping this thread up again.

Got my parts ready to go for tomorrow, but completely forgot off the top of my head what size the mounting nut is on the fuel dampers? Is it a 21mm???

EDIT: For future reference the mounting nut on the front fuel damper is 23mm, NOT 21mm.

19mm on the line. 15mm on the damper to counterhold and Mounting at the base is 21mm IIRC

use some anti seize on the flare nut connections so they can be removed later.
dont overtighten the connections as they will deform the fittings

Bump - I will finally get the chance to work on this car this weekend if it doesn't get rained out again.

I've got my fingers crossed that my stalling at idle when the car is warmed up goes away when the dampers are done. These 2 dampers are probably the only things left to do that have never been replaced in the car's 23 years of existence.

Andy, have your connected a fuel pressure gauge to the rail to check fuel pressure?

Be sure to keep us posted as to the results...having read this I've decided to replace all the dampers on my '85 when I do the intake R&R, injectors, etc in the coming weeks...

Sure thing. I'm going to work on it in another hour here. Nice and sunny today

Blitz - I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to hook up. Looks like that's one thing I need to pick up for this car. I was thinking of one of those ones you can mount up to the passenger side fuel rail.

Doh! Fuel line 928 110 269 01 from the front passenger fuel rail to the front damper crumbled!

Anyone have a spare? I hear this one is a PITA to order. I knew sooner or later this one would give out..

I've got my fingers crossed hoping I don't need anymore lines. That horse shoe shaped on the back is new luckily. Anywho, no sense on doing any further work until I get a replacement line.

Just imagine if it would have failed while you were traveling 75mph down the highway.

You should replace ever piece of rubber that holds fuel under the hood.

Good point. I don't want to look like a Roman candle on 4 wheels.
