More likely is it was taken to the shop for estimates and declared dead......on the same date. And just for the record you can hydrolock a 928 engine drain out the water/fuel and get it running again with a bent connecting rod which will soon screw up that cylinder....but it will run...Odds are this one is NOT hydrolocked just went for a bit of a swim.

The question is.... what kinda swim? I called the dealer where it was being serviced and they said they cannot give out any information except to the owner.

The wrecking yard is the current owner. They should call the servicer. Of course, maybe they think they are better off not knowing...

I am looking at the dealership, and it looks like its a Mercedes dealership?!!? Maybe the car was a trade-in and since the window seems to be down, and from the auction pics here they have wires on the floor and wetness on the seats and center console, i think the car was a trade-in that was left open and it rained in. Dealership could have total lossed it since a fixed/new interior is ridiculous priced?

Maybe, knowing that Great Falls can be a very affluent community, the PO turned it in on cash for clunkers for a new Benz. Wasn't the stuff they were putting in the engines sodium based, hence "SALT" water?

Hard to say but with people throwing $ away you never know. Just Saying...

I just got back from looking at the car. There is no evidence whatsoever that I could find that this car has flood damage. I've got two in the garage that got their floors wet in the recent Ga floods so I know what to look for.

Interior - good although the front seats have some cracks in the bolsters. No cracks in the dash or pod. Carpet looks very good.

Engine - looks like a 928 engine with 100K miles on it. It hasn't been detailed or powdercoated but it's all there and doesn't appear abnormal in any way that I could see. The air filter looked normal. No signs of water or residue in the air box.

Body - a few scratches in the paint here and there but overall it looks good. The rear bumper cover looks like it may have been resprayed at one time but I didn't see any sign of damage underneath and the car was on a lift so I got a very good look. The rear spoiler is a little faded. The front spoiler is in good shape but loose which appears to be a result of the tow truck.

If I didn't already have three in the garage, it would most likely be NLA. I asked Joe to let me know when he got the key so I could go back and hear it run. If it runs as well as it looks, I may not be able to help myself if someone else hasn't already picked it up by then. I'll post pictures soon. I gotta unload my new heater for the garage and I'm hungry too. Picked up some bar-be-chew on the way home. Time for a cold one.

I have to think that...."I asked Joe to let me know when he got the key so I could go back and hear it run. If it runs as well as it looks," once Joe KNOWS it runs and drives he is probably going to think it is WORTH more ! More than one car has been pushed into a channel or caught on fire AFTER a serious mechanical issue. Part of the risk of buying salvage cars , not all are accidents ! Some people opt to "sell " their car to their insurance company. For a dismantler who buys many cars the averages are much in their favor but the guy who only wants one you really can be unlucky. Yet the possibilty of getting a $20,000 car for $10,000 is attractive , especially for an optomist...

I decided to save it, so called Joe a couple of hours ago and closed the deal on it. Hopefully it will be a fun project.

Excellent. It's good to know it will be well taken care of. Thanks.
Here are the pics I took of it along with another one that was not so fortunate.

I will have it shipped to AZ and get it fully refurbished. Should be about a year's work.... between mechanicals, body and interior, but i will make it new again - i promise.

Thanks, I'm so glad this one didn't end in bits, good luck with it.
