The passenger fog/driving light lens is shattered. Broken when the car was driven into water at a decent speed? If so, don't be surprised if the engine's got broken pistons, bent rods, broken cylinders, or some combination of those.

I saw one that ended up like that when the owner tried to drive through a "puddle". There was no damage to the rest of the car. That was over a decade ago, and even back then it was over $12k in repairs at an independant Porsche shop to get it fixed. The insurance company paid for it to be repaired back then, but if that had happened today, there's no doubt that car would be considered totaled. Coincidentally, that car was black too.

Larry has a good point if it drove at speed into a puddle and water climbed up the radiator and flooded into the intakes the engine can hydrolock... that bends the rods and really screws up the engine....heard of it more than a few times. But no one really KNOWS ....so do you feel lucky punk ?

Once you know the vin can't you do some kind of insurance lookup or vehicle report that would tell what happened?

Meh, one of us will save it. I guess od had first crack since he's local. I called Joe last night and we had a nice chat.

Here's a link to the write up on their website.
100K miles with a Pennsylvania salvage title. "The belly pan under the motor was damaged in transport."
I'm going to look at it today assuming it's still available when I can get away from work but I'm gonna need to hear it run before I do anything more than look. If someone else is willing to roll the dice then have at it and best of luck to you. I was hoping the mileage would have been a bit lower given the appearance of the interior.

Mike - if you can, snap a few pics and post here, including engine bay.

Take a socket and handle with you to turn the engine over by hand- if it hydro-locked, you will either not be able to turn it, or the crank will hit the bottom of the pistons at BDC....
I'd still vote to save it if its hydro'd, but the price would be a lot lower...
Greg may be able to get it started..?

If you read the ad it says the engine turns over correctly using a socket and breaker bar or rachet.

Cars normally don’t just end up with a salvage title for no reason at all. Something had to cause the insurance company to write this car off. I would drain the oil and look for water. If there is water, it will settle to the bottom of the pan and will show as soon as you pull the drain plug. Pull the spark plugs, crank the engine over (jump the starter) and see what shoots out of it.

Mike, I think I am going to pass on it for now.
