Trying to save a 91 GT from being broken up
There's a damn nice 91 928 GT that just surfaced as a "flood car" from Allstate insurance.
Joe Cogbill at German Car Dismantlers just got it in. He called me to buy it, but Im just flat out of cash at the moment and cant pick it up.
He says he has no keys for it, but has looked at the carpets and the fuse panels etc and cannot find water damage anywhere.
Joe makes more $$ breaking it and selling the bits, but Joe is a 928 lover like me and just would rather sell this one whole to someone who will put it back on the road.
I dont know a lot more about it - dont call me. Call Joe at German Car Dismantlers if interested. $10,500 takes it.
Seems to me for a set of door and ignition locks, a foglight and little else, you could have your self a nice 5-speed GT!

PS: the passenger window is down, not broken. They cant get it up because they dont have the keys, so the plastic was applied to keep the interior clean.

Well, they could easily take off the door panel and put 12V on the motor to roll the damn thing up.

You can also start the car without the key if you really needed to.

easier than removing the door panel would be to jump power from an always hot fuse to the power window fuse at the CE panel no real disassembly required just pulling 2 fuses and a length of wire.

I'm not too far from this car. I can take a look at it if anyone is interested. Then again, if I look at it I might be interested so that might not be a good idea.
edit: Just talked to Joe. Going to look at it tomorrow. Thanks Carl.

Correct. There is more chance of shorting something that way if the person is clumsy though.

Not a worry for those of us who buy the car to drive it. I never considered my car an investment; I'll maintain it and drive it till the wheels fall off. And besides, salvage title or not, on close examination if it's been restored it really won't matter to a lot of other people anyway because we buy based on what the vehicle is, rather than what it was (unless of course they are buying it as an investment and need everything 'original'). I don't drive a stick anymore, or else I might easily be tempted by this. It looks like a nice car.

Flood damage? What about engine shots? If the car drank a lot of water the damage might not be noticeable on the interior but the engine might be shot...
