I've been following that thread, what a find!!!!

Queue up the: "What a waste" crowd

It's nice to see a small number of perfectly preserved cars like this.
Similar to the Countach hidden away in upper Michigan. Only 350 miles on the odo:

I have to keep up the tradition of picking these things apart, in this case the observations, not the car itself. Or both.

"rockers were stainless steel with the Porsche crest in the middle." I've never seen such rockers before. Don't know about the dead husband, but it doesn't sound like the guy did anything else to it. Did he have this installed after market (Nicole, have you ever heard of SS rockers?) and croak immediately thereafter? Most people don't add stuff and then not drive it. See below.

"The other thing that I noticed was a small bowl sitting on the floor of the passenger seat. When I asked what this was, he explained that it was a bowl of vinegar which he said he replaced monthly." Neither the second sugar daddy nor the "owner" bother to drive it EVER, but they change the vinegar, every month? This car needs to be turned over to Porsche Protection Services immediately! Too late, it already smells like vinegar in there. Normal people like the smell of leather. I love opening the door and taking in the smell. These people smell fishy.

A bowl of Vinegar is an "old school" way of keeping unwanted odors and critters out.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, it's far from uncommon.

Just because they do not drive the car doesn't mean they don't take care of it, at least cosmetically. I could share a database larger than the 928 registry of cars on my area that are never driven but meticulously taken care of.

I think this is a hoax! Here's my post on the thread in OT:

There are no purple 1995 928 GTS 5-speeds brought to North America for the 1995 model year. I've never heard of SS rockers on any 928, certainly not OE.

Here's the color breakdown by transmission (5-speed or AT)

By the numbers! Color and Transmission breakdown for 1995 model year GTSs
Black - 30 total 13 5-speeds & 17 automatic

Guards Red - 10 total 4 5-speeds & 6 automatic

Midnight Blue - 9 total 5 5-speeds & 4 automatic

Polar Silver - 9 total 3 5-speeds & 6 automatic

Grand Prix White - 7 total 4 5-speeds & 3 automatic

Aventurine Green - 4 total all automatics

Black Metallic - 2 total all automatics

Pearl White - 1 total automatic

Zermatt Silver - 1 total automatic

Crystal Emerald Green - 1 total 5-speed

Speed Yellow - 1 total automatic

Pearlglanz Green - 1 total automatic

Unknown - 1 total automatic

Total of 77 1995 928 GTSs

30 5-speeds and 47 automatics

Either you got the color wrong, the car is a European import, Japan import or this is a hoax?

its also possible that it is a 94 MY or even a 93 MY if bought in Japan where they state the MY when the car first get insured.

Is there a similar listing for each year of production? (Production by color and transmission?)

Sorry but no. The color/trans info was painstakingly gathered by Rixter. Unlikely we'll ever have it for the earlier cars.

Could he have mistaken the color as "purple"? Maybe in certain lights, (HID, Flourescent, Incandescent...etc) the Midnight Blue (or some other factory color) could have a "purple" hue to it. To me it doesn't sound like a hoax. More like someone who isn't as up on 928s as most here, that could have made a mistake on color and even MY. Just my thoughts.

I agree, midnight blue does look purple in some lights. My GTS is midnight blue and I do see purple in it but it would have to be a really strange light to think it's purple....... Plus, the details provided by the OP in the OT thread are just not supported by the documentation I have for 95 GTSs brought to the US and Canada. It's either a custom GTS done by the original owner (doubtful b/c the info just doesn't support the mileage), a ROW GTS or a hoax. Maybe it's not a GTS? Perhaps an S4 or GT?

Are there any Amethyst non-US 94 or 95 cars that this could have been?

Heh, that would put the value through the ceiling, as the pool of collectors would include more Europeans, where cars with low mileage are extremely rare! (yes, I realise 875km's is ultra-low mileage by US standards, but even European cars with less than 50k miles are very unusual - european 928's got driven.. a lot)

If only there was an Amethyst RHD manual 94/95 GTS I could stalk..
