Default I need some more engine bay items for an S3 928 USA 85-86

I am going to get this 85 up and running if it kills me.

I got an engine fire engine and finally unwrapped it the other day and found lots of melted bits. A fire really can cause allot of problems i do say. That being said I need some parts.

Off the top of my head im looking for used

1) Fan blade
2) center timing belt cover (I may have found the center belt cover)
3) The car has the main injection wiring harness, but i need the harness that connects to the starter and alternator and goes through the timing belt cover hole on the drivers side and onto the plug on the passenger side of the chassis.
4) Possibly some AC lines? But I think the car has a compressor and lines still attached.
5) crank position sensor? I may just buy new of course.
6) oil fill cap
7) 4 airbox hold down straps

I will replace the fuel lines with a kit from Roger, I think that should be fairly easy as the only thing left of my fuel lines is the steel parts. I do have an extra set though. I was also probably going to go with an S4 fuel pressure regulator and Kens excellent chip set to get some more power out of the thing from the get go.

Ive got new wires

I need new dist caps and rotors

I will likely pull the heads and have the heads done, and reinstall with all new gaskets on the top end.

I will also need all the rubber hoses that are under the intake, a new ISV and so on.

So I wanted to post and ask if anyone can help out with the items above 1-7? If you can please post a price for them.

Mike F. (Dangler) I would still like to buy your hoses we spoke about if youve still got them

Rob E. I would still like to buy those head gaskets from you if youve got them (assuming i do pull the heads, im not 100% sure)

Also Im debating what color to paint the intake and valve covers. I think silver is boring but I also think some blue (to match the exterior) might be a little juvenile too. I was thinking black wrinkle on the valve covers and then maybe part of the intake in gloss black and part of the intake (the cross tubes maybe) in a satin or flat or matte black finish. I would love to take off all the hardware and have it plated too. Rob E. ill need to get your contact on that stuff.

I am also posting because this is the first of this generation of engine ive played with. I was actually surprised to see how well engineered the fuel lines and plug wire routing is. I like it, it all just fits under the intake and looks very secure and well thought out. My first impressions were that this was a pretty cool design here.

Some pics of the new mess, and the inspiration....

Ryan-

The head gaskets are still here if you want 'em, let me know. What you really need is to borrow my freaking blast cabinet. Jen would love to loan it to you for as long as you want, for free.....(Do you have compressed air?) I see lots of cleaning in your future.

yeah no crap huh!

Could i borrow it? Ill return it with some fresh media (assuming i know where to get it from)

Did you have issues though blasting the valve covers that you did? The intake is pretty much paintless as it stands, very dirty and greasy but there isnt much paint on it. Or have you resolved the issues with blasting off the original paint?

Thanks Rob

Ryan-

Sure, you can borrow it. I still have about 20 lbs of glass bead. You need a shop vac and compressed air. The glass bead isn't aggressive enough for the valve covers even at 90 psi. Maybe you could try some aluminum oxide (there's a supply shop on the corner of Orangethorpe and Raymond, about 500 feet from Greg's shop), though the guys at OC Plating ended up sending the VC's out for chemical stripping. God knows what they're coated with, but it's tough....

If you want, you can borrow the parts washer too, it'll need ~2 gallons of odorless mineral spirits, the stuff in it is just about used up and quite gunky.

You have no idea how happy this will make my wife....

ive got a parts washer, it needs a serious washing though but i think im covered there.

aluminum oxide is supposed to be pretty good. Ill have a look at eastwood.com and see what they suggest, they had a pretty clear application chart last i checked

Don't ya love those cut wires, but no point in second guessing the guys who put out fires.

I just bought another parts car, but haven't seen or transported it yet, so I may have a few more parts.

6) oil fill cap

I've got a complete fan.
Box of timing belt cover parts, but can't say on condition without looking etc. and they are mixed up.
I must have a front harness, but again in box mixed with other stuff.
I don't always bother to keep the hose parts, but I should have hard lines for AC.
Also have the cap.
I need to refind those hoses.

Where and when?

I think I have Steven convinced to let me put this parts car on the slab behind his garage in Buena Park, which might happen as soon as next 10 days or so depending on weather etc. Coming weekend projection is rain, but perhaps next sunny one the car might be available for some kind of pick a party.

Thanks for the reply, sounds great. So your thinking 10 days or so? Im in no rush but knowing that ive located everything is good.

Where did you get the parts car from? San Bernadino?

Good guess, no clue yet on condition. Many of my questions had the same answer, that got burned when I cut it up with the torch. Half a dozen cars around SoCal on my part them out radar.

My black car is at Precision, and I wouldn't make a habit out of it, but I have used it as a transfer station for parts before, leaving things in the hatch for people to pick up later.

I have some 86 year cam cover rubber gaskets that I will never use and forgot where I got them from. Did you need a set of those?

Well, then either come and get them out of my garage, or give me an address and I will send them to you.
