Got a completely different failure point in mind?

Just kidding, I'm hoping to get that old one out to you on Saturday. If not it will be early next week.

They exclusively break where the piece is inserted into them. The slot is probably cut with square edges and this causes stress risers....look at me...like I know WTF I'm talking about.

Steve will have one tomorrow. He'll know more about what is going on in 10 minutes than I could figure out in a lifetime. He's a wizard.

Well I will no longer be needing the spring I purchased from Greg Brown and it is up for sale if anyone would like to own the supposed last one on Earth. Like it says earlier in Post #7 the cost was $350. I will offer it out for the same price, pm me if you have any questions or want to make an offer.

Colin (Lizard931) has produced some that are welded, not stamped with a square hole in the spring arm. He's offering them for $150 shipped I think (Colin please correct me if I'm wrong).

I plan to buy the first one by the end of the week and install it in a few weeks. $350 is a lot for a spring that will definitely fail inside of 5 years of normal use. Mine only lasted 14 months and less than 10k miles.

Well thats really good info, I think it would have been far more courtious to post that info in its own posting or atleast not as a comment to a part I am trying to sell.

Like I said I will take offers on it, I paid 350 out of desperation, there were no alternatives at the time, its all in this thread.

Just spoke to Jeanne. She said there's 900 of them available. Seems it's the same part for all MY. Part # 928.303.287.01. Anyone know if this is the correct part for 79? @$13.00 bucks BTW.

Thats not centering spring, its reverse gear lock spring. Reverse lock was introduced in '82 MY.

Centering spring we are talking here is totally different part. It came in '85 MY and there are two versions. in earlier gearboxes there are coil springs. Two separate springs in '82-84 MY and only one before '82 MY. '79 MY box is totally different than these later B&W syncro boxes.

If that centering spring is $13.00 I'm buying all 900 of them.

Sorry, I found this OP in a search about reverse lock spring.

So are you saying my 1979 never had a have a reverse lock??? I just noticed I can go from first to reverse and thought my reverse lock broke off.

Actually three distinctly different centering springs...to make it uber confusing....Porsche never had a part number for one of them.

And none of them interchange without changing other pieces.
