Default Intake manifold differences S4 vs GTS ?

I was powder coating intake manifolds yesterday and noticed some subtle differences between S4 manifold and GTS manifold and intake manifold side plates. Both side plates have the same part number. Does anyone know what the projection on the cover plate is for? Also bottom of GTS manifold vs bottom of S4. Does anyone know why the change?

I think the S4 is supposed to have that hex bolt head thing under neat its intake manifold. It just falls off on some of them.

Lex, not sure about the one on the bottom but the boss on the side-cover was to mount a diagnostic connector in early S4's-- an extra pickup on the flywheel for checking timing. I don't think it was ever used and has been removed from most cars.

This is an '89 S4 that still has that connector (and the exhaust-sampling tubes):

The early 32Vs had that diagnostic port too. Maybe it's a left over from them and later deleted.

Probably not much help but ~7 years ago I had an insurance company replace the intake on my 89 GT b/c of a careless detailer and from what I remember the part numbers are the same for the GT and GTS.

the flappy picture is missing the eccentric flappy stop, this nut head with a hole drilled into it off center keeps the flappy plate from binding on the inside of the intake housing.
Dwayne also has this part pictured on his intake R n R thread , his was also missing.
Best to position the bolt head as best you can then tap it onto the roll pin, a drop of green loctite is good here. also be careful about twisting the head once its on the pin, the pin can shatter

Is there a part number for the missing eccentric flappy stop? It's not shown in PET. I don't recall ever seeing this part before, and now would be the time to replace it. .

I made one out of an M12 bolt using a dremel and a 6.5mm drill bit.. post here in Dwayne's intake thread about it. See my quoted post for the size of the hole

Hilton - I was completely unaware of this part. Cut off bolt head seems like a good common sense solution. Thanks for the information.

Just realised it should read M12 - to have a 19mm head - corrected the post above.
