The whole website got its start back in '99 i think. I bought my first car sight unseen on Ebay (its the car i called Hanz on the website) I was in Ireland at the time, down stairs at a Bed and Breakfast watching the "Telly" as they call it, surfing Ebay. I saw the car I always wanted, a silver 1987, 928S4. In a moment if impulse , which now has really change my life through friendships and knowledge, I bid. I won the car and when I got back to the states a week later i flew to New York and drove the first 928 I had ever sat in down to Florida where I was based at the time. The car spent some time there before I drove it back to Vegas. On the way back to Vegas , in Flagstaff, I started to hear a "whining" noise from the car. Turns out it was the torque tube (one of my first BIG write ups). The car also has had a few other little issues with it that I put right over time....and documented. The website and documentation started when I took a digital camera and shot pictures of things as I took them apart....so I knew how they went back together later.

I spent about 6 months in Dallas over the summer of 2000 sitting reserve(on call) at the airport a lot. I found a web building program on my "new then" 266mx laptop with 4gig hard drive and started to kill time on "dial up". I also had made the jump from the Rennlist Email list to the forum here. I think it was Jay Wellwood that pointed it out. There are quite a few of us that have been here a LONG time. I saw Rennlist had a Web Area for members so I joined (BTW..anyone with a membership can also) . I figured out the workings of this thing called the "internet" a bit and started to upload and build my website.
As i worked on the car over time I took pictures and built the web pages for them. I eventually (and still do) started to get emails from all over the world from 928 owners thanking me for making the pages accessible for others to use.....the rest they say is "history". As stuff broke or needed addressing i snapped pictures and did little write ups. They aren't very "technical" in nature and were meant more than anything to show others that you can indeed work on these cars yourself. A picture is worth a 1000 words and many times that is all you need to remove or install a part.

Funny thing is, i have not done updates to site in so long. It must be 4? maybe 5 years? ...so long that I have forgotten my password and stuff! I need to get that sorted and updated one of these days.

Honeslty, the main reason i need to update is to add a link to "Dwyanes Garage" on there. Obviously having done pics and documentation myself, i really appreciate the time spent and the scope of what Dwyane has put together. It looks nice and neat, easy to do etc etc , but it is a VERY time consuming task to undertake. You have to take pics, sort, document, and fix your car while doing it! Dwyane's, Greg Nichols and John Pirtles web site write ups are which is why i have them linked on my site also. There are others out there also...Bill's, Dave's etc. As a collective group all these pages add a bit more insight on how to maintain our cars.

Anyway... thats a short history of it.
I think all of us can look back at the purchases of our cars and can somwhere pinpoint moments that have lead to friendships or a bit of self satisfaction when you fixed something! Thats what I enjoy abot this whole 928 thing.
You either get it...or you dont!...thats what i tell my wife, who has slowly gotten it over time ( I think)

Tony's site was one of the first that I encountered with good writeups for 928 wrenching tasks. I quickly found that it was a bit light on specifics for my 78.

Tony, yours was one of the sites that inspired me to do something of interest for the OB crowd. Thank you for that.

Tony,

Your writeups have been a great contribution to all of us, and your response above, giving credit to Greg (first web site I found!), John Pirtle, Dwayne, etc. is another example of your humility and deferring compliments to others. My only regret is that I don't have any real opportunity to "fly" in your Boeing that is faster than your 928 - it just doesn't travel where I go!!

Anyway, I want to add my thanks for all your work and for the time you took to inform us of it. One of the sites I seek out when I'm going to do something I haven't done before (or in a long time).

When I turned the first wrench on MY87 back in 2004 it was with Tonys write up in hand, caught the fever and well the rest is history.

This picture was my inspiration to get my car where it is today. And still is hanging in my garage as a reminder.



Thanks Tony for what you have given to this community. I am sure you have no idea how many of us still have our cars today because of your page.

Yes I think Tony has been an inspiration to many. His been there done that style (in his garage with no lift) is proof that you need not be a rocket scientist to work on these cars.......Just a Pilot Great resource and much appreciated.

Tony, Your "move the MAF and supercharge the beast" stuff, certainly was an ingredient in my supercharging inspiration........... No doubt about that!

I enjoyed your personal history perspective. It made me recall when I first fell hopelessly in love with the 928 form factor...... My fall happened about 10 years earlier than yours........ 1990. It took me a couple more years to acquire one and it has been a wonderful ownership experience. The Shark is the only automobile I truely lusted after.

There was a time in the late 80's through 1992 that I was really challenged in my career........ stressfull, long hours, hard work, and not a lot of reward. I put a poster of a shark on my office wall and would remind myself that when I was done "paying my dues", I would drive a 928.

Thanks for being one of the long standing good guys here Tony.......... Your contributions are substantial and are further marked by your always civil bedside manner.... THAT alone places you in rare company!
