That "tuned" sound...
Hello everyone!
I was just watching Quantum of Solace for like the 30th time.. especially the beginning sequence of the car chase. That DBS that he's driving is well.. amazing and I just love the sound of the exhaust...
Has anyone managed to get a similar sound with the 928 exhaust.. I'm thinking as my current ANSA bites the dust I might want to tinker to get that "tuned exhaust note".
Many thanks,
Curt
hmmm as next car: 06 Vantage or 99 360...

For me the best sound in a 928 (especially from the driver's seat) is the cams in a 90 GT with the stock exhaust including cats and an RMB. Just seems to have a musical note to it.
Spectators at our local PCA autocross say my GTS with x-pipe, sport cats, and RMB sounds better than the V8 vantage that comes to our events. I don't feel my GTS is as musical as the 90 GT was.

That "tuned" sound is coming from a 6 liter V-12...... spinning 7,000 rpm with 500 hp all for a bit under $300,000 Also of interest...lifted from WIKI..."The next four weeks were scheduled for filming the car chase at Lake Garda and Carrara.[53] On 19 April, an Aston Martin employee driving a DBS to the set crashed into the lake. He survived, and was fined £400 for reckless driving.[66] Another accident occurred on 21 April, and two days later, two stuntmen were seriously injured, with one, Greek stuntman Aris Comninos, having to be put in intensive care. Filming of the scenes was temporarily halted so that Italian police could investigate the causes of the accidents.[67] Stunt co-ordinator Gary Powell said the accidents were a testament to the realism of the action.[42] ......"

A lot of the wonderful sounds is because it's a V12.

BMW went one further and actually put a resonance tube from the exhaust manifold to the firewall on the Z3 or Z4 (forgot which one) to enhance the exhaust note in the cabin without making the car any louder to everyone else.
Me? I just remove the mufflers
My 81 has a tiny borla straight through after 85/86 manifolds and no CAT. My 79 is MSDS headers with a straight 3" out the back.

My brother just bought a new Mustang GT. It must not have that tube thing, it is way too quiet.
He thinks I ought to sell my GTS and get a Mustang GT like his because the auto up windows will stop if you have your arm out the window. ???? WHAT????

The v-12s run and sound like two straight six engines......so compared to a normal V-8 the v-12 at 6,000 rpm has the same number of explosions as the V-8 at 9,000 RPM and that V-12 at 7,000 rpm sounds much like an 8 cylinder doing 10,500 rpm, so you just need to spin your 928 10,000 rpm plus

Sound of music
That sound comes from 12 cylinders... If you like the DBS, then you have just got to hear this Aston Martin........!
I didn't drive it, but got to sit in it and get a feel for the layout... the motor is 7.3Liters, and sounds verrrrry nice..!

More cylinders does not necessarily mean a better sound. If you've heard how weird the Cizeta-Moroder V16T sounds, you would know what I'm talking about.

Dan,
It's not about more cylinders in a nominal manner, it's about the specific note a 60 degree V12 makes when revving, as the comparison was being made between the DBS V12, and a 928 V8...
The 177 makes the DBS sound tame..

I prefer the tuned sound also ....instead of a raspy sound. Both available on a 928. Just depends on what exhaust system you're running. I like my 89's Flowmaster RMB. It is one large pipe exiting the car, but has a tuned note and is not raspy.
