From the vin this is an 86 not 86.5 last four digits are lower than 1000.
Get a pre purchase inspection done .... Read the new owner sticky at top of messages page. Lots of tips there.
Especially timing belt, water pump, flexplate, and crank endplay.

Not sure how one would go about correcting a carfax record. Could hurt later resell efforts.

I have a car for sale its a 1986.5 928S Meteor Metallic with tan brown interior and rear air, Auto. VIN WPOJB0928GS861833
I just completed an extensive service , everything works cold AC, no surprises, drive it anywhere, shows about 85K but its higher since the odo was broken when i got it.
This is a great looking/running car its tight and sorted (This is the kind of car you dont sell because everything works)
Extensive list of common failure parts that have been replaced and then some.
All services up to date including the flex plate check, end play is .006in. (new is 004.and max is 016in.)
This is not a fixer upper, its a daily driver, New tires on factory flat wheels with the S4 suspension, and new Boge Shocks.
Timing belt new, tensioner rebuilt,
new oil pump seals and main seal, new trans cooler lines from the cats back to the trans,
new MC, new starter, new alternator brushes, new HCV and short hose, new fuel lines,
dash HVAC pods replaced. Fresh coolant and thermostat, new coolant hoses for the front of the engine, new trans flush with filter,
new fuel filter, new check valve, new air filter, new ODO gear and all pod connections cleaned
PM for details 10,500.00 neg.

My guess is miles are correct on the TX car, my concern is the opposite, it hasn't been driven hardly at all since 2003, less than 150 since 2007. $7k current bid vs owner expectation of $12.5k doesn't suggest a bargain waiting to be had, not with tires and service dropping on the new owner.

hey merlin, you got one a those in black..??
yep, the flea bay black 928 is probably a victim of not enough driving on a regular basis. vac lines are probably soft, crackly toothpaste by now. i'm going to take a look at her anyway since its local. i spoke with the C.O. and plan to meet up this weekend.
seriously merlin, i appreciate the offer and take it seriously. i love the older body style and an 86.5 is in my future. hopefully as well sorted out as yours. no rush. i'll keep it in mind.
cheers!

Vagabond Mechanic
tibcat: I am a mechanic of sorts in the Houston area (currently) and am reasonably familiar with 928s. If you want someone to look at a car with you and give some tips as to what to look for (sooo much) drop me a line here or Pelican. Get the PPI sheet and we can work through it. Although there is a lot of 928 specific items it doesn't cover, which, you will want to know about.
Merlins vehicle is prob a good way to go. You will probably end up doing everything he has already done and possibly (OK, probably) more by the time you are through.
