Fabio, Looking good. It's the little do-over stuff that makes one almost lose their mind. Persevere my friend.

Heinrich, Long time no hear. Glad to know you are still among the living.

That's motivating and liable to give ideas!
It must be nice to have a car worthy of washing and buffing on.

Yeah, it's maddening. Especially since I haven't had the joy of driving a 928 since Feb.

Thanks Mike. I've never been one to wax and polish my cars much before. I guess I will need to learn how to do that now. It's funny how when I started this project I thought the interior was top notch. Now that the outside of the car is looking so good I see a need to spruce up the inside. It's a never ending process. I was talking with some folks recently when it came up that I have these three 928's. They asked " oh so do you sell them after you finish them?" I laughed and said " I don't know, I've never finished one yet."

OK, progress report. The rear quarter windows were installed, removed and reinstalled with the trim The rear spoiler and window trim, antenna, front valance at base of windhield, rear wiper, pass. side door lock, hatch lock, headlights, rear interior quarters and rear seats have all been installed.

It's really coming together now. Drivers door still needs to be repainted as does the sunroof due to being damaged after it was painted. My aero mirrors still need to be installed as well. But for the most part, the car is together. We still need to block and buff the front and rear bumper covers. The hood is open in the second pic. I just wanted to make that clear before anyone comments about the huge panel gap.

By the way. I will be sending out an email to all the FL 928 list members. Mark could really use some work so I've talked him into a "Fall Special". Check your email inbox for details.

I'm not sure what you are refering to. The only thing that was "over done" was the clear. And that was so there would be plenty there to block sand to a smoother than stock finish.

Thanks for the kudo's everyone.

What did you do with the little right angle brackets that hold the front of the spoiler corners to the rear fenders? I had to make new studs as the rusty ones snapped off. They needed to be removed as there was rust under them. The one on the gas tank side was very hard to reinstall.

They were not rusted out like yours. They weren't difficult, thank goodness.

I was trying to covey the idea of not loadng the fresh top coats as well as fresh clear coats to an already thinck subsurface as thus may lead to the paint crazing or other damage,
keep the reapir coats thinner than the original

Its amazing how much better these cars look once you install aero mirrors and a nice modern set of wheels.

Looks great!!

Did you paint the bumpers off the car? Can you explain HOW the bumpers were done? I am at that point now.

I will try. Do you have specific questions?

The bumpers were off of the car and the lights and rubber were stripped from them.

I sanded the buper covers down and Mark applied some kind of special boding/filler to the small imperfections ( crack ).

Once that was dry, that area was block sanded.

The covers were primered and then block sanded again with 600 grit.

The covers were colored

The covers were cleared

We super glued the new rubber to the cover a few inches at a time and held it on with tape until dry.

After the glue was dry we came back and stapled it with Monel staples. Monel are better than stainless and will not corrode. We set the staples deep into the rubber with a hammer and punch.

The covers were installed and then block sanded and polished in place.
