It looks like there is a new race to produce the worlds ugliest automobile. Porsche is in the lead until the new Lexus is released:

Sure, during a time when aesthetic looking vehicles were the Gremlin and Mustang II.
The 928 was produced & released when revolutionary vehicles such as the Countach and Berlinetta Boxer were coming around.
Slightly different times from today where the majority of vehicles are quite beautiful.
Not to mention the 997 has more in common looks wise with the 928 than a 70's era 911.

I drove a S about 2 weeks ago. It looks much better than I expected and runs strong.
If I was in the market for a 4-door (ie., BMW, Audi, Merc.) it would be on my list. I'd probably wait a year so they can de-bug it though.

I had the chance to go the Premiere Evening two weeks ago at Lauzon Porsche
in Laval (Montreal) and took a close look at an S, S4 and Turbo.
I would say that it is a lot better live than in pictures. Very nice car. A true Porsche as far as I'm concern.
Would take one anytime in my garage... If I would have th $$$$$$!
They held the event right in the service bay area.
They even put a Turbo on a lift so we can have a look under the car...
Very cool evening and perfectly well organised "show".

No so today when speaking about the Panamera compared to it's competition which include some very elegant auto's that will age well.
"This is my 1986 Lamborghini Countach. I've had this car almost 22 years. For a while it was my everyday car. Now you wouldn't think you could use a car like this everyday, but actually it's pretty dependable and straightforward. Not as complicated a car as it looks like....."
Where did I or anyone else say it was a useless automobile? On paper it's an incredible vehicle.
It's also quite simply one of the most horrid looking creations ever to ride around on four wheels.
Like I said, it seams like there is a race between auto manufacturers to produce the ugliest automobile. As of right now, Porsche is winning.

And people are still saying it today.
Outside of our small group, there are hardly any people who think the 928 is a good looking car. Being perceived as 'ugly' gets my vote as to why the car ended up being a failure for Porsche.

For me it is the opposite. I like the 911 all along. But when the 928 came out, I thought it was just the coolest GT ever. Simply beautiful from front to back and that out of this world interior.
The Panamera is just butt ugly no matter how I look at it, IMHO.
