I have to finish my winter project before I can continue with this one.

Doing a top and front reseal, TB, WP, and a bunch of other things including the polishing of the Cam Towers.

Read post 17 carefully to understand the scope of my spring CE update project.

Although Knife switches would be really retro, they won't be needed.

All kidding aside, Old School means keeping it simple and using common sense.

As promised, I will post finished installation with pix of the various steps and timeframes in the spring.

Everybody have a safe and Happy New Year!

Wow,

It would seem there may be more than a few people interested in the little CE panel spring project.

Step one is for real. And Step two is a good idea.

Maybe someone will need some of those no longer needed late model plugs and such. None of the parts are available as separate pieces. When I am done with this, any RenList members that need any of the left over parts are welcome to them, for free. Just pay for postage.

Step 2a was just for fun.

Since there is a bit of interest in the project, I will see if I can sneak it in during the winter.

I did begin Step three. Which is to create a new Fuse and relay chart, since the one in the owner’s manual will no longer be accurate.

I will make two of these. One for my particular application that includes the additional aftermarket accessories. And another that just has what the original 84 US and Euro cars came with. 1983 should be the same. Earlier models will vary slightly but I don't think it will be a problem for those with the earlier cars that want to do the upgrade.

That's actually what I was referring to, wonder why he stopped carrying them.

Do you know of any OEM application that ever used the glass versions?

For a particular problem fuse (fuel pump) on my '78 I used an approprately amped fusible link fron autozone that uses a flat (spade) fuse

No, it seems that the glass versions started showing up well after most automakers figured out that the ceramic/plastic ones suck.

Also I am not convinced the Euro style fuses have any real issues that ATC solves.

OTOH I remember some thread talking about the CE panel being made of replaceable modules, so maybe the Euro fuse parts could be replaced with ATC parts.

********** I've seen the ATC / Euro fuse adapters, pointless to my thinking, the weak link of the Euro fuse holders low pressure contacts stays the same.
I agree with that, the problem is when folks let them go so long that they burn up the holders.

i have an OB panel and i got a used ATC panel. relay housings are bigger on the OB then the ATC, loom connectors are different as well.

either i will have to chop up the top of the OB panel to add the ATC modules, or make my own base for the old wiring and new ATC modules..

I am working on this now. blade fuses are now down to whats called Micro (toyota use already), maybe 10mm wide, and shallow as well. Holders for these are pretty much unobtainable AFAIK. ATC in lines are easy, but bulky and messy to use for a 928. There are some mini holders around (Keystone), and I am looking at their 3587 or 3588 units. Next problem is getting 5/16 female blade connectors for the bottom connection....also not common, only ones I could find here (Oz) are flags (side entry lead).
Prototype in the works.....probably never be economic to do them all, but i propose to do the high current units, or any that give me issues.

Sorry guys, but life and work got a bit in the way and forced me to postpone several projects in progress. I hope to finish it up in March and post pix.

So jp - is the plan to make an individual unit that can replace a single fuseholder? or a bank to replace n at a time. Seems this needs an SMT interposer board as the adapter - is this what you are looking at?

I thought about a pair of 2 different terminal adapters that would be held in place with a cover/retainer strip - would need custom terminals (or at least adapted ones).

A more basic alternative still would be multiple fuseholder panel (maybe 8-way at a time) - bolted to the board and wired to the terminals - probably simplest to do but a little messy looking (wiring). Also truly 30A capable fuseholders in ATC/ATO are quite rare. The Porsche 1985 & up versions sadly aren't really very good in that respect either...
