Depends....

What do you want to do with it?

Is this a long term "keeper"?

I suggest posting photos of your car when you get it. Some things may show up in the pics.

Any records?

Where are you located?

Welcome to 928 ownership!

This could be expensive...

Why do you think you need "better" brakes? Generally even the older 928's have pretty damn good brakes and if you are not going to track the car I doubt seriously you would need any more than the car already has... Going to the track for DE's, then yea, some S4 brakes would be nice. Looks like it is probably a competition package car so it should have the S brakes already and for street work you will be FINE.

Paint and interior will probably eclipse what you paid for the car by a factor of 4 or 5 I would guess and that would be for VERY BASIC stuff, not SERIOUS custom work inside and a full on concours quality exterior paint. For a basic driver resto you could have a fun car w/o having more than about $6k into it from its current state I would think though...

Looking forward to regular updated on the cars progress! LOVE 928's and LOVE to see them saved!

thats for the info. the car was taken care of by a porsche guy here in ABQ (albuquerque) so mechanicaly she is great. dirty but great. the under side looks good as well. no signes of big leaks if any at all. i have no doubt i will spend lots on the interior. but, thats fine. i got nothing but time. i do LOVE to wire cars. i have done a few race cars and off road trucks. so if a little bug wants to show up, im on it like white on rice! i will have her home tomorrow so i can start cleaning her up as best as i can and then off to the body shop to see what needs to be done for paint prep. i can do most of the work my self, i just dont trust my self with a paint gun..

Upgrades are pretty simple since not much aftermarket stuff is available.

First, hit all of the sponsoring vendors and make a wish list.

Most go for exhaust first with a y-pipe and rear muffler bypass or even headers and an X. You can also replace your top end with Euro S goodies like intake, heads and throttle body.

First and easiest way to make power on the typical used shark is to replace all the vacuum lines on the top half, air filter, fuel filter etc..

Of course if you have $6K+ sitting around eating a hole in your pocket, you can look at a super charger.

Curious myself about converting from Euro fuses to ATC, but odd as it may seem, those Euro fuses seem not to be an issue as long as normal cleaning etc. is done.

Conversion is a topic worth its own thread, so I'll start one now.

Plenty of the guys here are smart about paint, and many views exist, but IMHO painting a 928 well is way too expensive to even consider compared to buying a nicer car with good original paint. Also virtually every dime spent on paint is money down the toilet, repainted cars don't have increased value. Painting would also be the last thing I do to the car after fully sorting it out and making it otherwise just what I wanted.

This looks like a serious project; a doable, but not necessarily feasible one.

I noticed the car has H4 headlights. That's a great and expensive upgrade!

Best of luck!

Was.... Just got rid of it and the MSD6AL to another Rennlister who shall remain nameless until he is ready to come out of the "Ricer-closet"

Ducman82...
Looks like your missing the jump post cover and cap in the motor compartment off the passenger fender close to the cross brace connection. These parts are cheap and very necessary.

I would also clean all the ground points while your doing your clan up...might be a good idea to change fluids, check leak down, etc...just to get a solid base to see whats next. Check for oil leaks, bleed brakes, check power steering leaks, ect...

DON'T USE POWER STEERING FLUID if its low. Porsche used transmission fluid instead.

Do you have a copy of the factory service manuals??? You will need those. Also a part I D manual for your year model.

I'm not sure I would trust the PO statements about service done on the car. Just a good assessment of what you have and an order of importance as to what needs repair. If I were closer I would help. Just enjoy the process...these cars are not hard to work on.

First off, welcome to the tank! I'm sure we can keep you busy with that shark. Double check your fuel lines. Even if they look good, but have no record of replacement.... Change them out asap! Fire bad! Want more performance? Bilsteins, s4 brakes, some 17 or 18" wheels and some advanced rubber like pilot sports...and +1 on a supercharger... That will get you going...But be sure to start with making sure all aspects of the car are solid before you start.
