close the hatch, it will not be more aerodynamic than it being closed. The comparisons to the Lemans Ford Daytona are incorrect. the little kick tail helps with disrupting separation to reduce drag, but widening the rear area only makes things worse.

true, after altamont '07 whcih was a roling demo derby the racing has gotten WAY cleaner but accidents can and do happen, but i doubt rub strips would help

yes you can, there was a '98 bmw at Buttonwillow and it was FAST due to the 1000lbs tossed off it, it had no roof, trunk, hood, fenders or doors. a very unreconizable car and it got the peoples curse because it wasnt in the spirit of the race. Jay the race organizer really doesnt want stripped down caged frame going around the track

with all the glass and crap out ours weighs 11lbs, then i cut 10" out of it, then i decided to scrap it all.

that is really just a mock up for the frame work, its actually pretty light but we will be adding about 35 lbs up there, about as much as a sunroof, the car is so stripped it wont be a problem. also remember we are running full course thunder hill and we expect to hit about 125-130mph by the end of the straight if there is no chicanes, im pretty sure the spoiler will do something then!

thanks for the complements

the cage is done, sorry i have no camera so no pics now. the roof should be done tommorrow, we pack it for the test day tonight!

Wow, 125mph is frightening for some of the junk that will be out there. I was surprised they didn't chicane the back straight at Nelson Ledges. We were only hitting low 90s.

I'm pretty sure 125+ at the end of the straight is a bit optimistic given our 190whp, 2750lbs and the automatic......since the widow hits 130 at the same weight but with 300whp....and my stock 928 automatic at a slightly better power to weight (12 vs our 14.5) would hit around 110mph.... Remember 3rd gear is good for about 130mph!!!!

The widow doesnt hit 130mph. at 2:01ish times, the top speed down the main straigth will be 125mph, any slower, you are probably in the 115 to 120mph tops.

This car will be lucky to get 110mph tops.

I just started to hit 130mph with the 370rwhp stroker and times dropped from 201 to 1:59.

The speedo would read 120-124 but the tires are 5% taller.....and when you do the math for 4th gear at 6000-6100 its 130mph??

Forget about the speedo, its about 5% off anyway with the stock 24.5" tires. When I went to 26" tires, the speedo became accurate. I think you are now on 25.5" tires, if you are running 335x30s vs my 305x 35s.

Just give me the RPM you are at and we can get the speed with a given gear ratio. 2.64 rear end with standard S4 gears? what is the ratio in 4th gear.

Here is rylan when he got the 330rwhp blower on his S2000. 2600lbs.
He BARELY gets to just over 120mph and he is running 2:00s . He has some pretty accurate teletry here. There are many others that confirm this, as well as my videos. Both of us are just barely hitting 130-5mph now, him a little faster with his 500rwhp 4 banger.

More than likely, your 4th is 10-12% shorter than my 3.2 :1 in 4th, so it looks like you might be around 115-117mph with 335 which are 1% smaller than my 305s in diameter. (based on 3.52:1, 25.5"diameter and your rpm is probably more like 5750)

+1 on removing the hatch...and then build something BIG back there to stick up in the airstream! That's what we did, had the Monty Python trojan rabbit jumping out the back. It's a riot. And yes, the racing is surprisingly clean and good. We have run three Lemons races with the same car and other than a couple blown engines, it's still looking pretty good. I've only been really hit once by some idiot in a Crown Vic who thought he could outbrake me, and a 4lb sledge took care of that pretty quick. Having an agile car with GOOD brakes is a big plus, much moreso than worrying about top speed.

I would estimate the widows peak RPM in 4th gear at the end of the straight now...to be about....0rpm...or as fast as somebody could push it

BUT when it was running with a 1.35 4th and a 2.64 rear end or a total ratio of 3.564 on 335/30-18 tires or 25.5" it was hitting consistently between 5800-6100rpm depending on how deep I went into the corner....so using this:

http://www.autolounge.net/calculators/gearing.html

I get somewhere between 125mph and 130.9mph.....I make all my speed estimates based on rpm & gear...I don't use the speedo since I figure its off anyway....& the next version of the widow won't have a speedo at all....only a GPS based digital dash-datalogger!!
