Default Coding plug "98octane cat" and EZK maps

i think ive asked this before but its buried somewhere in the net here and i cant find it again.

When i look at my Sharktuner ignition maps they all say that i am in 98 octane cat....set per the coding plug i assume

My car is an 87s4 auto? Shouldnt it show 91 octane cat?

BTW...its starting pretty damn good now warm..hot...etc etc. Nice to "have my car back" so to speak!!!

It may be refering to RON (research octane number) which I believe is more common in Europe. US uses (R+M)/2 (M = motor octane number) to claculate the octane number you see at the pump and will be a lower number than the same corresponding fuel rated in RON.

I thought the default value for the coding plug for US cars is 98 octane?

It says this map is not in use for all the maps shown, that's because the car is not started right?

It's recommended that you don't use the WOT map at all for EZK. There is a checkbox I think in the ignition parameters menu that disables the EZK WOT map. It makes it much easier (at least for me) to do ignition tuning because I'm just working in the base map. The EZK WOT map is not additive like the LH one.

So looks like about 6 - 9 degrees retarded from stock 98 on average, except the last three cells.

Here's my current ignition map. I get ~10 knocks per 3rd gear WOT run from 1,500 - 6,800 RPM with the AFR around 12.5:1. I have to say the SuperMAF adds a HUGE amount to the load map. Before, I was pretty much at the bottom 100% cell at WOT all the time even at 1,400RPM.

yup..it wasnt started..i should have stated that..oops

hmm..disbale the WOT EZK? ok..the heck if im going out to do all that over again. That WOT map was built on the open road going from 0 to over 150mph year and a half ago now. Im pretty happy with it.

data log....drive...stop...coast back down hill... note knocks...pull timing at the req RPM.....REPEAT. got to the point where i would only get a few of what apeared random knocks when it was all said and done.

You wouldn't have to redo all the ignition timing. Just copy the stuff from your WOT map to the base map. You just have to figure out where your load is across the whole RPM range and just fill the cells there and lower with the values from the WOT map.
