Default Radar Detector Mounts

I've got a Bel 995 radar detector(Yes I know it's not a Valentine) that mounts to my windshield with suction cups. I have replaced the suction cups a couple of times and I'm tired of it falling off my windshield. I was wondering how others mounted their radar detectors. Pics please

I would like to add a question: Do radar and laser detectors still work well enough, if they are mounted higher up, behind the dark tinted band at the top of the windshield?

I'm still using suction cups, but I'm a bit scared of what that thing might do in a collision.

Based upon my past experience with radar detectors I know the suction cups they provide are garbage. I was able to find replacements (can't remember where now) which fit into the standard windshield mount and worked beautifully. The suctions should also be replaced yearly, the heat really softens the material and makes them less effective. Where did you source your replacement suctions? Have you tried cleaning the windshield?

Maybe see if you can adapt the Valentine suction cups? Several years down the road and my V1 never comes off the windshield unless I take it off.

Nicole, the tint may affect laser, but shouldn't affect radar unless it's metallic. I seem to recall both of us getting radar hits at about the same time on past drives, so maybe it's a non-issue? I don't have that band across the top, just the light bronze factory tint.

I have mine wedged in between the sun visor and the headliner; just put a little spacer behind the clip for the sunvisor so it fits snug, and it sits up nice and high (no, radar doesn't get blocked by the dark tinting), directly in front of my head where the cops can't see it from behind. Seems to work well there, but I do lose the use of the sun visor. Then again, as my head is only an inch from the roof, I don't have much use for the sun visor anyway. I never did like advertising that I had a radar detector anyway.

If you'll go to OSH, you'll find in the kitchen gadgets section some small suction cups made be Adams. (four to a package). Buy them and discard the metal hooks attached to them. Then substitute them for the original Valentine suction cups. They fit a bit more snugly than Valentine cups. Then also use Sharkskin's trick if they don't want to stick: rub your thumb on your nose and then rub your thumb on the suction cup interior sucking surface in a circular motion a few times. They should now stick for a long time. When dry again, repeat the above method. Keep spares in the car in case the ones in use become brittle or dry.

As for Nicole's question, I keep my Valentine close to the upper edge of the windshield and have no problems with any band. My problem is with the source of the radar or laser; I think it is generated by hungry bears. Bummer!!

Been using the V-1 suction cups and have been very happy.

Jason, got your message but your answer has already questioned.

I took my valentine suction cups off the plastic mount and attached it to an aluminum angle. The angle matches the profile of the windshield header frame. By removing the sunvisor clip I can gently pull down the headliner and slip the aluminum section up against the windshield frame. With the sunvisor clip reinstalled the mount cannot be removed. It also puts the detector as high as possible (right up against the headliner). I have no loss of reception front or rear and it cannot be seen from behind. The aluminum angle also make it impossible to remove the mount without tools. (a minor theft deterent)
