Most of what I've seen recommended for a 255 is an 8.5" wide wheel. I would stick with 245's on an 8" wheel.

Tass has a set of 4 9" cs wheels for his GT also. Great way to go, but 16" tires are getting hard to find.

No rubbing, but I am getting some tramming and a shimmy which I'm attributing to the wider front wheels/tires accentuating the worn suspension parts in the front (rack, rack mounts, tie rod ends, etc).
Just got back from having the wheels re-balanced, they were way off, no wonder there was a bad shimmy and tramlining.

Much better now, no shimmy, minimal tramlining.

10's with 265's all around, I'm liking it.

With more grip your suspension will feel softer as you push the car harder... BTDT

Yep.

I'm slowly doing a mechanical refresh on it, so if I decide to keep it long term, I will get to the shocks and springs, bushings, etc. For now, I redid the brakes (mc, lines, pads, rotors), clutch hydraulics (master c, flex line, slave, blue hose), wheels and tires (new on front, rears soon). Radiator side tank and rad cleaning done too, and a bunch of hoses and heater valve replaced too. And a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now.

Before the suspension though, next up will be motor mounts, tranny mounts, pan gasket, steering rack, tie rods if necessary. Also need to do timing belt, w/p, etc (got the porkensioner on the shelf).

And a ton of other small stuff...

Hi, bit of a newbie here, 911uk.com takes up half my day but have fouond RL very very useful! I run a 993 C2S and came across this thread whilst searching for info. I am in the UK.

I have a perfect set of genuine Porsche Cup 2's 7x17 and 8x17 ET70 with Dunlop winter tyres that I am looking to sell and was curious to know exactly which Porsche these were originally intended for. I'm sure they are not for the 993. Can anyone shed any light? Also if anyone is interested as reading this thread they seem to be pretty rare?

Chris- It's my understanding the set you reference was a "Winter wheel" option on the 993. I've read these wheels have a heavier duty finish to better withstand the winter elements and the treatments applied to the roads to deal with them. The sizes and offsets may also be better suited for the fitment of chains. Someone with more knowledge of 911's will have to step in and confirm or refute this.

As to a market for the wheels here, the 17x8" ET70's are ideal for use on the FRONT of the 928 and can be paired with 17x9 ET55's on the rear (the stock Cup II for the rear of the 928). I doubt you will find much interest here for the 7" wheel, as most believe the stock 7.5" wheel is already too narrow. That said, at the right price someone may be willing to buy the whole set just to get the 8" ET70's.

BTW- For those following this thread, I have a pair of 17x8 ET70 Cup II's that I may be selling soon. That is, if the USPS can find my missing 17x9 ET70 Cup II.

Thanks for your quick response. Yes on further reading on RL I found the same info, pleased you confirmed that. The 7x19 ET55 are easy to sell on, ideally they'd go to a 993 enthusiast who wants an original matched set of 7's and 8's and all mint.

I was trying to build a set of 7's and 9's but as you've found singles are hard to come by....I've ended up with the the 7's & 8's and a single mint 9x17 ET70 (993.362.128.01)...wheels& offsets hey!!! So it looks like I've got what the USPS also have

(And I thought the saying was "I'm all sixes and sevens")
