Default SoCal Recommendations for Audio Installer

As part of 91 S4 Turquoise Metallic "refresh" I will be enhancing the audio and visual capabilities of the car. At present the car is in final stages for paint and the interior has been removed. I want/need to make the interior more quiet than it presently is. I want to be able to enjoy the audio system without the noise feedback from the tires and the stroker as I cruise down the interstate.

Sound deadening is a big part of the design of a good audio experience in a car. I'm looking for recommendations for an "excellent" shop in Orange County or Southern L.A. county (paint shop is in Downey, CA). Looking for a full Dynamat-like installation with attention to the inner doors, roof and rear quarter areas in addition to the usual floor pans.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Dan-

As someone who just bought a cassette player to replace the thumpitty thump multiamp setup in the GTS, I'm not sure I'm trustworthy, and I have no firsthand experience with SoCal installers, but the local Ferrari dorks seem to like Audio Illusions up in Chatsworth:

If you bring the car back up here to the NW, I'm sure Rob Fossett (our local expert stereo installer/fabricater guy) can set you up.

I had my car done in one of the top SoCal shops, and I picked them specifically because they have experience doing 928 installs including some big ones.

I can't recommend them, and in hindsight really regret not doing the work myself. Near as I can tell despite talking to the experienced top guy, my car got bumped to one of the "Gypsy" installers associated with the shop. My door panels did not go back on correctly, and I ended redoing a number of install related things.

What sort of goals do you have for the install?

(or two questions that reveal all)

Big show woofers in the back, or something hidden?

Factory front end look, or flat panel nav type thing?

Ultimately I want touch panel as the U/I. Regarding the audio aspect, my hearing sucks due to uncle sam business so I am not an adiophile per se. There is a clever mid size amp already mounted in the spare tire (truly in the wheel itself) I don't care for the big amp look in the cargo area.

Really all I want for now is someone/someplace to clean out the interior existing soundproofing, prepare the metal surfaces (floor pan, cargo area, roof, inner doors, rear qtr panels, etc.) for application of sound deadender material while everything is out of the car. That's it really. Not hard, just tedious. I'm 2,600 miles removed from being able to do it myself, so am hoping for some local reference just to have th eabove completed. I'll work on the details of the audio system after the car interior parts are redone and it is running.

Body shop doesn't want to do the sound deadening?

Greg had a track car in a few weeks ago, stripped interior redone completely in sound panels. I never take pictures without asking, and didn't get around to doing it, but it might be useful to see.

Nope - I inquired there first but they do not do that sort of thing and they don't/can't recommend any shop local.

As Greg said - you don't really want to pay my labor rates to scrape insulation off the floorboard do you?

So still at a loss....
