I guess you could take it on his word that it's new, but the only way to be sure is to take it out and inspect it.

The shop is an independant repair shop has NOTHING to do with Porsche inspite of the signs and improper use of the Porsche Crest /logo/ pictures of cars and name ! IF the work had been done by a Porsche dealer you have a two year parts and labor warranty..... Odds are they bought a pump from somewhere most likely rebuilt and put that in. If they do not do the work for free......you can give them untold grief by simply sending the photos of their shop from their website to Porsche Legal department along with a letter explaining that you THOUGHT you were getting Porsche dealer quality service and parts because of those SIGNS and LOGOs ......

There's a lot of interest in these type of pump failures because they typically result in engine block damage by the pump impeller migrating. The pump shaft migrates toward the rear, unseating the shaft seal which shows up as a shaft seal leak. The impeller grinds into the block without any audible noise.

You should request a personal inspection after the pump is removed.

as much as a leaking pump sucks....you are LUCKY that it didn't seize causing the timing belt to break and ruin the engine.....its far cheaper to replace a $250 pump than an engine

I had one fail after just over 1000 miles. PO, trying to do the right thing, had it put on before I took delivery of the car because the original was leaking around the shaft. The new one didn't leak but the impeller came completely off the shaft (so that it just sat in there without spinning) less than a week later - I had picked up the car in Colorado and drove it back to LA. The NEXT time I drove it after getting home the pump failed. So, yes, it happens.

I'm all for a pound of flesh, but failed after 4 months and guess teeny miles, is the shop saying "golly its out of warranty and not our problem?" Why assume anything good will come of them doing more work on it?

I see you point but looking at their website, I can't see how one could mistake this for a Porsche dealer.

FYI, my three Impeller Block Milling (IBM) data points do not support the conclusion that the migrating impeller always causes a coolant leak. In 2 of 3 cases it was silent. But in none of them was a coolant leak evident.

I just replaced the water pump etc a little over three months ago. Is it worth doing again while the water pump is out. And any guess what a porsche dealer would charge for a WP replacement. I think the warranty may be worth the xtra money.

The fact that you called it "Fairwinds Porsche in Bear, Delaware" indicates that there was some misunderstanding and the photo you posted above with the PORSCHE in the familiar script, the shield on the conveniently parked Racing trailer and other images on the website ALL would be of interest to Porsche legal department . BMW would also have a fit over the round emblem on the building . Kinda like if I opened a corner hamburger joint and put a Mc Donald sign on it had a picture of a Big Mac on my website..... The reason those signs are displayed is BECAUSE it adds value ,brings in money, is good for business. Problem is they belong to Porsche and BMW. It also might lead customers to think they had the Porsche Factory Warranty that all parts used were from Porsche which may or may not be the case.
