That doesn't answer the initial question, I did not find the part number on Roger's site.

I am interested in this as well. What is the best VW lifter?
034 Motorsports, for example, advertises this lifter: http://www.034motorsport.com/product...roducts_id=464
They say that the stock VW lifter is 85g and this lightweight lifter is 70g. A question remains whether these are dry or wet weights, my bet is wet.
Then there's the matter of material, hardening method, and coating. I have no idea how these different lifters vary from each other on those dimensions.
Also see this: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothrea...ostid=60351047
For what it's worth, the lifters I bought from Roger weigh exactly 50g dry with assembly oil only. There's some sort of gray coating or surface treatment on the contact surface.
[EDIT: Someone wrote this somewhere on the web:]
Just heard back from Four Season Tuning:

all the 050 lifters are the same. it just boils down to country made
and qty of the set. the 050109309J is the oe# for the german ones
the 050109309HBR are the same but the H is for hydrualic instead of
the J and the br is for made in brazil, I cant asign the same part
number to mutliple items on the website.
the german made ones are here in a set of 16
http://fourseasontuning.com/?product=2
the best deal are these made by the same co in their brazilian plant (
i have sold over 300 with no issues for the 16V and VR6)
http://fourseasontuning.com/?product=162
Hope this clears it up, the main part number is the same, just the
last letter and country of origin have been added.

Will these also work with the 85-86 32 valve heads? Are they drop in replacements? Is there an equivelant for the 16v engines? If so, what is that part number?

If someone is interested in going solid, these might be a way to go:
http://www.034motorsport.com/product...roducts_id=629
"Solid lifter bucket for all Audi/VW motors with the most common 35mm lifter diameter. Weighs approx 1/3 of a hydraulic lifter, and prevents valve float to RPM over 12k rpm."
Also see: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/archive...?t-159969.html
Why use solid lifters is another question, especially since 034 Motorsports claims that the lightweight hydraulic lifters work well in 16V Volkswagens up to 8300 rpm. If someone can sell me a short block that will live la vida loca above 8300 rpm for extended periods of time, I have a thick stack of c-notes just a pm away.

Thanks guys. I ended up ordering lifters from Roger. Not too bad at $15 each and I'll have them tomorrow. Then it's engine building time!
Cheers,
Tom
