Factory one off GTS body @'91 NY Autoshow.
Many years ago I went to go look at a 928 for sale. I believe it was a @91 GT - if memory serves. What struck me about the car is it had GTS rear quarters. The seller told me the Porsche factory specially made it with GTS body (to be) for the NY auto show.
He bought the car at the show from Porsche. At the time I didn't realize that it was potentially quite special.( Or not?) Actually the car was less then perfect and because of this, I passed on the car. Just was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this particular 928. I'm wondering if it's worth more then a regular GT of that year and what happened to it? It was a black car. That is all I can remember about it.

Was show held between July 1991 and January 1992? If yes then GT conversion would make some sense as first real US GTS were made in January 1992. PCNA could have wanted GTS for the show but since none existed conversion would be next best thing. If show was held before ROW GTS release in late summer 1991 or little after US production start then explanation doesn't make sense and was very likely BS.

I have read somewhere that the GTS rear fenders could be ordered on GT's and probably S4's before the launch of the GTS? But if that was the case, surely Erkka would know every detail about it

So far no one has been able to find any single evidence which would show GTS rear fenders, rear bumber or Cup mirrors being available one day before ROW GTS went into production in late summer 1991. Many claims over the years but no proof at all.
'88 MY Exclusive department fenders and slant nose setup is separate thing and while back have been proven to be from factory.

I know of a 928 GT, early MY 1991 (WP0ZZZ92ZMS800579) with factory installed GTS rear flares. It is for sale in Denmark. Asking price is DKR 105 000, equal to just below USD 20 000.
The option code is XX9 and at the time of purchase the pricetag for the GTS flares in Germany was DM 11 973 (around USD 6 000).
The car in question is very well documented with the original purchase invoice. It also has the GTS mirrors, but I have not inquired about those.

It is shown as a 1990, but the serialnumber is telling a different story.

Very interesting. What spacers, wheels and tires were included into XX9? Based on picture it also included rub strips. Were Swiss intake tubes also part of the package or are those later addition?

On my previous GT, MY 1990 (serialnumber WP0ZZZ92ZLS842116) the "swiss" intake tubes were fitted from new. That car was originally sold in Germany and it had the longer gearshifter, known from the S4 manual. So there are some variations.
Either way the original purchase invoice of this '91 GT show the XX9 option code, the description of the code and the price.

I'm working on an Japanese 91 S4 with factory GTS flares and regular mirrors. It is owned by an RLer. Porsche must have offered this as some special option in a few cars.

However, as Samuel states, there are other ROW cars with it. Here are two, both Japanese market models, the first of which is now owned by fellow Rennlister Danny (DJF1):
