Is this a for sale ad by a non-member? Just curious.

The car needs nothing right now besides a smog pump (which I bought from Sterling) and a new AC belt. I am having all the belts replaced soon though, just to do it. This car will also go over 190 mph (194 into a head wind and 198 with no head wind) and runs mid 13s at the strip (been twice). Not sure too many people care about performance, but no point in buying a slow Porsche, right?
It's got to have some serious mods to do 198... Cams, heads, exhaust?

$11-14K would be reasonable if it's all sorted and documented.

Well one would think. I think the gearing is doing it... The speedo is accurate to at least 120, I haven't GPSed it over that yet though.

It didn't have the RMB then either (about 5 years ago). It has just the gears, chips and air filters, nothing more, or less. I was at 6,900 rpm in fifth gear with 2.64s and a 255/40/17 tire. The revlimiter kicks in just past 7K so it might have pulled to the limiter, but I needed to take a turn about 2 miles up so I slowed down to about 140 before doing so.

I can't imagine any way gears, chips, or filters would get an otherwise stock 87 over 175 tops. Maybe something in the pod got messed up?

The car doesn't know the lower 2.64 gears are in there maybe. Where does the speedo get it's reading from?
190+... No way without a supercharger or stroker motor AND a 2.20 box...

http://www.autolounge.net/calculators/gearing.html

6900rpm with a 2.64 and the 255/40-17 tires equals almost 195mph....however 1987 USA models all had the 2.20 rear end...so unless the speedo was recalibrated for a 2.64 (the euro trans) it is off by 20%..so 195 indicated is actually 156mph....which is plausible...

However to make a 928 go 195mph takes 415HP which no stock 928 comes even close too...not even the GTS's which can go slightly over 180mph with simple mods....the only way a 928 can go that fast is with a bunch of extra HP.....

almost forgot.....all stock 87S4's are rpm limited to 6600rpm....only GT's are higher at 6800rpm...so it is impossible to pull that many RPM's without sharktuning to change the limiter

Sorry, but it won't get anywhere near that without serious horsepower mods. (Especially in a headwind ) Ride height and side mirrors also have an effect. Simply put, 194-198mph isn't going to happen in a stock engine S4. Conventional wisdom among Open Road Race participants is that it takes at least 500hp to go 200mph.

I've been up to 199mph with George in his supercharged 928-S4 in ORR. Spent plenty of time 180mph+ with him. There is a WORLD of difference between 170mph (which a stock S4 should do) and 180mph+. It takes a looooong time to get from 180mph to 190mph, and 190mph-200mph seems like an eternity. Few people can handle a car at that speed on public roads, you have to work your way up there.
