Default Painted Wheels *pics*

Now that I've gone black, there's no going back.

Cleaned, lightly sanded (360 grit), two coats primer, two coats Duplicolor black caliper paint (with ceramic).

Dave, looks very cool! How bad was it to paint the interiors and exteriors? I'm thinking of doing something similar... How many cans of spray did it require per wheel?

thanks for posting!

I used a garbage can with a wider diameter than the rims as a platform for painting. Only the rubber was sitting on the lip of the can, so I was able to flip the wheels over to paint them without worry about marring the finish. It's too hard to get even coats with the wheel standing upright.

Painting the outside of the wheels was a breeze. After cleaning/sanding, I used masking tape to keep the paint off the rubber. Painting the inside was likewise easy.

For all four wheels, I used two cans of primer (I did not primer the inside surfaces). I used three cans of paint, but the third can is still more than 1/2 full. Including the sandpaper and tape, the cost was about $40.

I just masked off the center crests. I used a razor blade to cut away any of the tape that extended beyond the edge of the crest.

(Ah-em... the crest is supposed to point to the valve stem... Quick fix it before anyone else notices!)

I'm not sure I understand the appeal of black wheels?

Good job Dave.
I actually finished painting my cupII about 2 weeks ago. I used a different paint and so they look a bit different, but similar. I have yet to put them on my car yet and take pics. Good job on the caliper paint that stuff will work great!
