What can we do to help get Mark Kibort get back on the track again
#16
The best thing we can do is keep an eye out for a strait/solid s4....that is cheap. Mark can/could transfer most/all of the good parts over to a new race car. Take everything from the rear hatch to the vin plates and transfer it over. I will keep my eyes open in Michigan and if I find anything I will let him know(I suggest others do the same) Once he gets himself checked out the best thing he could do is find another car and start to work on it asap. I had the same thing happen with my race bike and the quicker you get a wrench back in your hands the better your soul starts to feel!

Mark,
If the roller chassis Mark A offered doesn't work out, I have a straight 89GT chassis with clear title I will donate to the cause. It is completely stripped and ready to transfer over the good parts.

Per the state of Wisconsin DOT (Yes I've called about this) as long as the VIN and odometer stay together, it's perfectly legal.
The chassis is just another part number in the PET. What if this happened to a year old GTS back in 1996 and the owner opted to have a new tub shipped from Germany? Would it come with a new VIN? Nope, it would be transferred over from the wrecked car.

I suggest that mark gets ahold of his own bootstraps, and pull.

not necessarily... I havn't run the 89S4 5spd#s, but I'm betting they're pretty close, given the 35% ratio I've seen in most yrs of 5spd vs AT production
I'll have to rerun all the lower vins from 89 to know for sure

Thanks so much Nicole, and all of you that have though about how to get this car back together and racing again. I said it before, but Ill say it again, this is a special place where these kind of things can happen.
I just stumbled accross this thread and was amazed again of the care and concern for me and the car. Its sad, I have to stop replaying the crash in my head. "Would have", "should have", "if only". It just tearing me up. BUT, I know I have to get past it. Its only a car. It takes only time, money and ability to put one together and certainly, Im limited in all 3 areas. Wouldnt it be great to race a car where if you wadded it up, you just say sorry to the owner, its racing and fly home . The pros have the life dont they, or do they? There is also something magical about driving a car you have put together or one that has special value. It almost exceeds the need to win, and thats something I rarely have felt in sports Ive competed in. The 928 on track is a beatiful thing, and I think it would be very tough for me to commit to another plaform for the type of racing Im able to do right now.
Again, many thanks!

Mark has given us lots of entertainment with the Holbert car, but this might have come to an end:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-by-civic.html
I'm pretty sure he will make every effort to get back on the track - either with a fixed Holbert chassis, or a different chassis.
Either will cost a lot of time and money, I suppose, and AFAIK Mark's pockets are not too deep - why else would he get his tires from dumpsters?
So, I'm wondering, what we can do to help him out. Mark Anderson has already offered a rolling chassis, but there will be parts, paint, and time needed.
Should we create a Mark Kibort sponsorship fund? Or would it make sense to buy him credit for parts at the very place that offered him a rolling chassis?
Mark: If you read this, let us know what we can do to help!
